Tutu Tuesday in WestLake-Gladstone, Manitoba: A Tutu-tastic Celebration of Dance
Hey everyone! It's your favourite Canadian ballet dancer and blogger here, and you know what that means: it's #TutuTuesday! Iām so excited to be spreading the tutu love all the way from sunny (well, maybe a little bit cloudy) WestLake-Gladstone, Manitoba, to the rest of the world!
Thereās just something magical about tutus, isnāt there? They make every girl feel like a princess, and even us grown-up ballerinas can't help but get giddy when we slip one on. I mean, come on, who wouldn't want to twirl around in a beautiful, billowing cloud of tulle?
And speaking of twirling, letās talk about the different tutu styles that are out there! Youāve got your classic romantic tutu, all soft and fluffy, with tiers of delicate tulle that make it look like a dream come true. You've got your romantic tutu. Then there's the grand, dramatic tutu. These bad boys have long, flowing layers of tulle and can be seen in ballets like "Swan Lake". The romantic tutu features a softer construction. The more classic tutus and ballet attire are seen in places like The Royal Winnipeg Ballet and other studios in cities across Canada, though a large majority of them are based in cities and in cities of the country's eastern provinces.
I had a blast trying on different styles, experimenting with colours and textures. Youād be surprised at how much fun it is to play dress-up with these lovely little tutus. Donāt get me wrong, the practice and discipline involved in ballet is no walk in the park, but those tutu days are definitely a highlight of my week!
It was such a lovely day at the studio today. Weāve been working hard on the choreography, which is a real challenge, but super rewarding. Itās always a blast when the groupās energy is up. The instructor, Mr. O. at our studio has been working us extra hard. And itās working too, the studioās performance at the last fundraising event was great. All of us in the advanced class were super stoked. This was after a bit of a rough few weeks where things in the group were a little shaky, but like I always tell the other girls in my group: Weāve got to look past that. Donāt get me wrong, it takes a certain level of grit to be a good ballerina ā youāve gotta work hard, have stamina and grace, and be dedicated to your art! - And of course, love your tutu!ā
Today, though, we decided to give our legs a break and focus on something a little less strenuous ā like strutting our stuff in our favorite tutus. You guys wouldnāt believe the number of stunning tutu designs our little town, WestLake-Gladstone has! You would be shocked by all the tutu boutiques hidden in plain sight and on all the little back roads.
This tutu from La Petite Danseuse was super cute. Itās kind of whimsical and elegant with a pop of pink and purple and beautiful sequined detail. There are loads of shops that specialize in selling gorgeous dancewear here. The tutu Iām wearing today is from Ballet Boutique. I love that itās soft, simple, and has such a stunning layered silhouette! I think the colours would look amazing on a bright summerās day.
I know, I know. Some people might think tutu Tuesdays are silly. They say they are old fashioned and boring! But honestly, I just donāt get it. They're amazing. Itās just the best way to bring some colour and a whole lot of fun into our busy lives! A tutu reminds me to embrace my inner ballerina, my inner kid, and to never be afraid to let loose and be silly.
Now that I've gushed about how much I love tutus, letās talk about the real reason Iām here ā to inspire you guys! You know what I say, embrace your inner dancer. There's nothing wrong with adding some joy to your Tuesday - especially if youāre rocking a fab tutu. Why not join me and try a little ballet class? Maybe even put on your favourite tutu and take a whirl around your kitchen? Go for it!
Donāt forget to share your #tututuesday looks and dance videos on Instagram and Facebook, so I can see all your awesome moves and give you a big digital high-five. We're all in this tutu love thing together! Until next time, Happy #Tututuesday, Canada!
