Tutu Tuesday in Merrickville, Ontario: A Ballet Blogger's Delight

It's Tuesday, which means it's Tutu Tuesday! And I, your friendly neighbourhood ballet blogger, am thrilled to be reporting from the charming town of Merrickville, Ontario, where the tutu scene is about to get seriously chic. Now, I know what you're thinking: Merrickville, Ontario? But trust me, this little gem in the heart of Canada's countryside is hiding a fashion secret. This place oozes old-world charm with its cobblestone streets and picturesque architecture, making it the perfect backdrop for a Tutu Tuesday photo shoot.

This week's Tutu Tuesday is all about embracing the unexpected. While you might think of tutus as being purely for the stage, I'm here to tell you that's simply not true! Tutus can be just as fabulous for everyday life, adding a touch of whimsy and elegance to your everyday style.

For today's look, I opted for a classic romantic tutu, the kind that billows and swirls. This is a timeless classic and it's easy to dress up or down. It features layers of delicate tulle and a silky lining, giving it that iconic ballerina vibe without feeling over-the-top. For a casual spin, I paired my tutu with a comfy oversized sweater, a stylish denim jacket, and my favourite pair of Converse sneakers. And to top it off, I threw on a chic black beret - because even tutus deserve a little Parisian flair.

But it’s not just the romantic tutu that’s making a comeback. Let's be honest: there are a ton of tutus out there, and finding the right style for you can feel overwhelming. From the traditional romantic tutu with its cascading layers of tulle, to the modern, edgy tutus with leather detailing and asymmetrical silhouettes, there’s a tutu style for everyone and every occasion.

  • For a casual vibe, try a short tutu. These little wonders add a playful touch to jeans and a T-shirt or dress it up with a chic blouse and heels.
  • For a more dramatic look, go for a layered tutu. This style is perfect for adding drama and volume to your outfit and makes you stand out in a crowd. It looks stunning on its own or as a layering piece. Think layered tulle with shimmering sequins, oh yes please.
  • If you're looking for a versatile option, consider a tutu skirt. It gives a classic tutu feel while maintaining that perfect amount of effortless polish. You can easily dress them up with a statement top or a sophisticated blazer.
  • Let’s talk colour, baby! A tutu doesn't have to be pink! Bold colour or a mix of pastel hues are so trendy and so fabulous. Be fearless. If you’re ready to rock the bold hues, look for tutus in jewel tones or metallic shades - I’m particularly fond of a silver tutu for an evening out. The silver adds just enough sparkle. And yes, I'm pretty sure it works with just about every shoe colour.

One of the best things about Merrickville is that it has a ton of adorable boutique shops filled with everything from trendy vintage clothes and funky accessories to unique home décor. After my photo shoot, I indulged in some window shopping and found the cutest vintage lace jacket to complete my tutu look - totally the perfect vintage addition, wouldn't you say? If you're looking for a perfect weekend getaway with charming shops and even more charming sights, add Merrickville to your list.

Remember, wearing a tutu is all about having fun and expressing yourself. So don't be afraid to experiment with different styles, colours, and accessories. Whether you’re a seasoned ballet dancer, a passionate fashion enthusiast, or just someone who wants to add a touch of whimsy to their wardrobe, let's all rock Tutu Tuesday and bring a little ballet magic to Merrickville, Ontario!
