Tutu Tuesday in High Prairie, Alberta: A Celebration of Canadian Ballet and Style #tututuesday

Hey, dance lovers! It's your girl, Anya, back with another blog post, this time from the heart of Alberta โ€“ High Prairie, to be exact. Today, we're celebrating Tutu Tuesday, a special day dedicated to the iconic garment of the ballet world.

While I usually spend my days twirling on stage in Edmonton, this week I'm in High Prairie for a ballet workshop for young dancers. And let me tell you, these kids are incredible! Their enthusiasm for dance is contagious, and it reminds me why I love this art form so much.

But back to our main event, the tutus! Today, we're taking a look at the evolution of the tutu, from the classic romantic tutu, with its layers of tulle, to the more contemporary styles we see today. In the ballet world, tutus aren't just a garment, they're a symbol of grace, strength, and artistry.

For the workshop, I thought I'd bring out a few of my favourite tutus to show the students. I have a soft spot for the **romantic tutu**, it's the epitome of classic ballet. Those flowing layers of tulle, they make me feel like a ballerina straight out of a storybook. But, if I'm feeling adventurous, I'll opt for the **contemporary tutu**, it's a bit shorter and can come in all sorts of interesting fabrics and designs. This type of tutu allows for greater movement and flexibility.

And for a special occasion, a **pas de deux tutu** is always a showstopper. It's designed for duets, usually adorned with lots of embellishments. I've got one with little sparkly details that catches the light just perfectly!

I'm loving the whole Tutu Tuesday vibe here in High Prairie. This small town might be far from the bustling city of Edmonton, but it sure knows how to celebrate the arts.

It's amazing to see how a simple garment like a tutu can bring people together. From seasoned professionals to young budding dancers, it's a shared love of ballet that binds us all. It reminds me why I love this art form โ€“ itโ€™s filled with expression, elegance, and a whole lot of fun.

So, whether you're in a big city like Toronto or a small town like High Prairie, get out there and celebrate Tutu Tuesday! Put on your favourite tutu, do a little twirl, and remember the joy of dance. #tututuesday

And if youโ€™re looking for a place to experience ballet in Canada, I suggest visiting one of our renowned ballet schools, like the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto or the Royal Winnipeg Ballet โ€“ you won't be disappointed!

Now, excuse me while I go explore High Prairie โ€“ I heard they have some pretty cool vintage stores with the perfect costume for a Tutu Tuesday celebration.

Until next time, keep dancing!
