Tutu Tuesday in Labelle, Quebec: A Canadian Ballet Blogger’s Take on the Trend #tututuesday

Okay, so you know that feeling when you step out in your favourite tutu and feel like you can conquer the world? Yeah, that’s what #tututuesday is all about. And, well, here in Labelle, Quebec, where the maple trees turn a brilliant red and gold come fall, it's officially my new favourite day of the week.

As a Canadian ballet dancer and blogger, my heart is a little more on the fashion side than the professional performance side these days. That's not to say I don't love the magic of ballet - I do! I just find there’s something so freeing and joyous about expressing myself through fashion, and what better way to do that than with a tutu? They're whimsical, they’re colourful, and they're a little bit sparkly! Let's be honest, who doesn't love a little sparkle in their lives?

This week’s #tututuesday has me thinking about how unique each style of tutu is and how they speak to a certain mood. This makes for a perfect week to showcase the power of the tutu on Instagram. Maybe your style is the elegant, full-bodied Romantic tutu with all those layers of tulle. Maybe you’re going for the simple and practical contemporary style of the 'pencil' tutu that moves with you in a seamless ballet dance, a little more minimalist but powerful in its own right. Or, are you a fan of the super bouncy and whimsical character tutus that just feel a bit more fantastical, great for playful vibes.

My pick this week, though, is definitely the poetic and romantic “classic” tutus made famous by Tchaikovsky’s ballet. And there’s no better place to sport this look than in a picturesque town like Labelle, surrounded by the breathtaking Canadian landscape. With the vibrant fall colours all around, this elegant look will definitely have me channeling my inner ballerina.

Speaking of ballerina magic, did you know Canada has such a rich ballet history? The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, established way back in 1939, is Canada's oldest professional ballet company. How awesome is that? And if you're ever looking for ballet inspiration in the big city, check out the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto. They have amazing productions, plus workshops for budding dancers – it’s seriously worth a visit if you're in the neighbourhood.

Anyway, let's talk #tututuesday. I encourage you all to don your best tutus today, whether you're strutting around a beautiful place like Labelle, or just waltzing around your living room!

So, what kind of tutu will you be sporting? Let me know in the comments!

Some tutu styling tips for a killer #tututuesday
  • Don’t be afraid to go bold with colour and pattern!
  • Play around with layers. I've found that layering a classic tutu over a simple t-shirt can create a super chic and effortlessly stylish look! You could even add a cardigan for an extra layer of warmth.
  • Don’t forget the shoes, for goodness sake! If you’re feeling sassy, a pair of statement heels will work with a simple tutu. For a more toned-down look, some flats can complement a more layered ensemble.
  • A simple yet statement accessory, like a unique scarf, belt or jewellery can bring it all together. Just remember, the aim is to not overdo it! Keep your outfit chic and elegant!

Let's keep spreading that #tututuesday joy throughout the world. Be sure to share your looks and tag me, and who knows, your photos might even inspire me for next week’s #tututuesday blog. Until then, let's get out there and celebrate the simple joy of a twirl and the fashion magic that comes with it!
