Tutu Tuesday in Gimli, Manitoba: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion

Hey there, fashionistas! It’s your girl, Olivia, back with another blog post. This week I’m talking all things Tutu Tuesday, a day dedicated to the iconic piece of ballet attire. As a dancer myself, I’ve always been fascinated by tutus – from the fluffy, romantic *Romantic* to the sleek, modern *Modern*. Today, I’m heading down to Gimli, Manitoba, where a community of dancers, and ballet lovers, are coming together for a day filled with fun and a love for the dance form. The beautiful thing is the variety – Tutus are truly diverse - there's a tutu for every mood, occasion and even dancer! It's fascinating that such a versatile garment can take you from a classic performance, a community event, even a street dance flash mob. #tututuesday.

What I love most about tutus, aside from their absolute undeniable glamour, is how they really embody the spirit of dance, no matter what the genre, it just feels right! Today, the ladies in Gimli will be putting that spirit on display with a flash mob in the park. It’s all about celebrating the joy of dance. Even if you're not a dancer, there’s just something magical about seeing a group of people come together and dance. They’ll have it all: the *Romantic*, the *Modern*, the playful *Whimsical* tutus - it will be amazing.

I’m especially looking forward to seeing the different ways that people style their tutus. Some will keep it classic with a ballet bun, a pair of tights and simple pointe shoes - and hey - I wouldn't expect anything else. But, it's pretty exciting when people start getting creative. Imagine, what do you pair with your *Whimsical* tutu for a picnic by the lake in the afternoon? Maybe a crochet cardigan for the cooler breeze and a sunhat, it could look pretty cute, no? Or maybe there's a *Modern* tutu wearer who will try to make the whole look avant-garde, a nod to avant-garde dance styles. It will be interesting to see if they try something more theatrical with a pop of color to play against the *Modern* black and gray tutu or go full black and white and try and incorporate that theme - I bet I will be taking notes.

This isn’t just about tutus though, folks. Tutu Tuesday is a chance to celebrate dance in all its forms, here in Gimli. It’s a chance for dancers, both experienced and just starting out, to share their passion. Ballet has a special place in Canadian culture and today I am definitely gonna witness it for myself. We've had such great, acclaimed dancers from here. The dance schools here are fantastic. It makes sense that it will be a great #tututuesday!

So if you’re in Gimli today, drop by the park around 3 pm for the flash mob. Be sure to join in the fun, if you want! I promise you’ll have a great time. And if you’re not in Gimli, I encourage you to host your own #tututuesday event wherever you are. Maybe try wearing a tutu out and about, and share pics on social media with your friends and fellow dancers. I will try and see everyone at the event. After all, tutus aren't just for the stage anymore! They're for every dancer - every occasion and every part of life. Let's keep Canadian culture thriving and dance proud in Gimli! #tututuesday!
