Tutu Tuesday in Westfield Beach, New Brunswick: A Celebration of Twirls and Traditions

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Anya here, and guess what? Today is the day - the day we've all been waiting for - Tutu Tuesday in beautiful Westfield Beach, New Brunswick!

As a proud Canadian ballerina and someone who absolutely lives for all things fashion, I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement. It's a day where everyone in our charming seaside town comes together to celebrate the magic and beauty of ballet, and let me tell you, it's a sight to behold!

This annual tradition has been a staple in Westfield Beach for over a decade, and every year, it just gets bigger and better! It's the perfect way to embrace the artistry of ballet, share a love for this beautiful art form, and of course, have some serious fun while doing it.

I remember the first time I wore a tutu as a little girl - it was a magical experience! My mother, who used to dance in the National Ballet of Canada, would twirl me around in my little pink tulle masterpiece, and I just knew that I wanted to be a ballerina too. That love for dance, for the feeling of freedom and artistry it gives you, is exactly what we celebrate today.

So, what exactly happens on Tutu Tuesday? Well, let me tell you! It’s a whole day of festivities:

  • The Tutu Parade: This is the highlight of the day - a parade of people from all ages sporting their most fabulous tutus. We have everything from the classic romantic tutus, the soft and fluffy ones, the bold and dramatic tutus, even tutus adorned with local seafood, like a lobster or a giant scallop, to give it that New Brunswick flare. (Because who can resist a bit of our Maritime culture, right?). This year I even saw someone rock a pair of roller skates with a rainbow-hued tutu. So creative!
  • Ballet Workshops: Local ballet instructors offer free workshops for all ages. These are so much fun and open to beginners or even seasoned dancers. Who wouldn't want to learn how to execute that perfect arabesque or improve their fouetté?
  • The Tutu Bake-off: Every year the bake-off gets more impressive with incredible tutu-shaped cakes and macarons that look so elegant, you almost feel bad eating them. (Almost!)
  • The Tutu Auction: For the ballet lovers, this is the chance to get their hands on some truly special tutus. Local designers donate amazing one-of-a-kind pieces, so there’s a chance to go home with something spectacular to add to your collection or a fabulous statement piece to add to your next evening outfit. (A sequin-encrusted black tulle tutu goes with absolutely anything).
  • The Tutu Talent Show: We have local dancers performing, musicians playing some classical music or their own tunes and even a group of young dancers from our very own Westfield Beach Dance Studio. Their routines are always the highlight of the show!

The whole event has such a wonderful energy, from the joyful atmosphere to the infectious smiles on everyone’s faces. It's truly an amazing reminder of why we love this little town. Everyone from kids in their homemade tutus to professional dancers participate - it's like a huge ballet-loving family, all coming together in celebration.

Don't worry about being "ballet-pro" or knowing your pirouette from your pas de deux. Everyone’s invited to celebrate. Even if you can’t make it this year, remember, next year, on the last Tuesday in August, get your tulle on, head over to Westfield Beach, New Brunswick, and embrace the spirit of Tutu Tuesday.
