Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Ferdinand, Quebec: A Celebration of Dance and Style

Hey everyone! It’s your favourite ballet blogger, Claire, back with another post – and this time, we're going full-on #tututuesday in the charming town of Saint-Ferdinand, Quebec. This little gem nestled in the heart of the province is overflowing with beauty and charm, and trust me, the locals have a seriously stylish flair.

Now, let’s be real – tutu Tuesday is a little extra. It’s about embracing the frills and the twirls, the ethereal flow of a classic tutu, the power of a dramatic pouter, and the undeniable charm of ballet. I’ve always been a fan of tutus - I’ve got a closet full of them! But this week, I'm taking it up a notch, exploring the vibrant culture of Saint-Ferdinand, Quebec and the way it’s woven into the dance community.

First up, a shout-out to the Saint-Ferdinand Dance Academy - these guys are a true force in the Canadian ballet scene. Not only do they churn out incredibly talented dancers, but they've also managed to turn Saint-Ferdinand into a hub for all things tutu. Every Tuesday, you can find them strutting their stuff in the cutest, most elaborate tutus, showcasing a wide range of styles.

Think:

  • The classic Romantic tutu with layers of tulle creating a bell-shaped skirt that dances gracefully around the dancer. These are my personal favourites because they have a dreamy feel, perfect for ballets like Giselle or La Sylphide.
  • The ‘poiter’ or pancake tutu, for you dramatic queens! This style typically features several layers of hard tulle gathered into a circle to give a wide, stiff shape and can come in all sorts of colours and finishes. If you’re into drama, the poiter’s the one to pick for a grand performance!
  • For something a little more edgy and contemporary, there’s the contemporary tutu - often featuring layered panels and irregular shapes of sheer fabric.

Saint-Ferdinand is overflowing with boutiques showcasing this playful, dramatic aesthetic in everything from their clothes to their home dĂ©cor. And you know I just had to dive in! So today, we're going shopping. I’ve picked out a stunning ensemble inspired by the romantic, flowy tutus of past eras, paired it with a classic french baker’s hat for some whimsical flair - you gotta admit it flows really well with a full tulle skirt! - and some simple, classic black ballerina flats for easy, chic mobility.

We’re heading to CafĂ© EnchantĂ© in the historic part of town – I hear they have a “ballet brunch” special on Tutu Tuesdays. I’ll fill you in on that later, but let's just say it’s worth it to get a glimpse of this incredible community and its passion for the art of dance and style.

And let me tell you, Saint-Ferdinand is seriously beautiful! From the charming cobbled streets to the cozy cafĂ©s to the stunning river views – it’s a place that truly captures the romance and beauty of Quebec’s heritage.

So, let’s explore the #tututuesday vibe, explore this beautiful region together – let's capture the style and the story of Saint-Ferdinand’s dance scene! You won’t want to miss this one!
