Tutu Tuesday in Russell-Binscarth, Manitoba: A Tutu-tastic Journey

Hey everyone! It's your favourite ballet-loving blogger, back with another exciting post! This week, I decided to take Tutu Tuesday on the road. I'm always up for an adventure, and what better way to celebrate this whimsical fashion trend than by visiting a charming town in the heart of Canada? This week, Iā€™m showcasing the lovely town of Russell-Binscarth, Manitoba. Iā€™ve always had a special place in my heart for the prairie provinces, with their expansive landscapes, friendly locals andā€¦ well, Iā€™ll let you guess!

As soon as I stepped off the bus in Russell-Binscarth, I was greeted by the most picturesque scenery! Lush green fields, a quaint town square, and the warmest welcome from the locals, a feeling that only small town Manitoba could offer. The air was fresh, the sky was vast, and there was something in the atmosphere that felt both grounded and liberating ā€“ the perfect setting for my Tutu Tuesday photoshoot!

I wanted to make sure my outfit was just as enchanting as the town itself, so I decided on a classic, romantic tutu. You know me - all about that elegant ballet flair, which means the silhouette of the skirt was undeniably flowing, creating a magical effect in every picture. But just to add a bit of ā€œwowā€ factor I chose a blush pink, soft tulle, which seemed to complement the delicate colors of the local wildflowers. It was just the right amount of playful for a casual, outdoor photo session. And who could resist the charming nostalgia of wearing a tutu as I explored this unique town? The look felt playful, timeless and utterly fitting, if you ask me.

But Tutu Tuesday was more than just fashion in Russell-Binscarth. I wanted to showcase the rich culture of the area and celebrate the strength, beauty and grace of the people, all reflected in the elegance of the tutu.

A Little History:
  • The history of ballet in Canada is fascinating. The first recorded ballet performance was actually in the mid-1800s. Did you know? Canadaā€™s early pioneers were interested in theatre and that includes dancing!
  • Over the years, ballet schools began to spring up all across Canada, spreading a love of this exquisite art form. My familyā€™s been in the arts my whole life! I grew up learning all about classical ballet and its significance, all around the world and definitely in Canada.

Now, the town of Russell-Binscarth boasts its own small community theatre and is host to various events. Imagine me on that stage, dancing to the rhythmic beat of a country fiddle or maybe the piano accompanying a heartwarming piano solo.

My Top 3 Spots in Russell-Binscarth
  • The historical Russell-Binscarth Community Centre: Itā€™s a must-visit for those who love soaking in the history and local flavour. Its wood paneling and grand ballroom made for the perfect backdrop for some ethereal, dance-inspired photos! I loved dancing under those massive chandeliers - a true Tutu Tuesday fairytale.
  • The charming Russell-Binscarth library: If youā€™re searching for that classic ā€œCanadian prairieā€ feel, head to the library. The old-school book shelves, with stories piled high, provided the ideal spot for my graceful twirling! (Not too graceful though. I didnā€™t want to topple those stacks of novels! )
  • And of course, no trip to a charming town is complete without a stop at a local bakery, the Russell-Binscarth Bakery: Who wouldnā€™t love a warm treat to enjoy as they take a stroll? A flaky cinnamon bun and a hot cuppa was the perfect finale to a picture-perfect afternoon. Plus, they were happy to let me twirl around with my tutu! The baker seemed as delighted to have me there as I was to enjoy the incredible sweet, yeasty smell. What could be better? I promise, their treats are a delicious reward at the end of any visit to Russell-Binscarth.

Russell-Binscarth reminded me that thereā€™s beauty and grace in the smallest, quietest corners of the world. My Tutu Tuesday adventures made me feel grateful for this land and the welcoming spirit of its residents, all embracing the elegance of this timeworn art form with me.
