I've been lucky enough to be dancing since I was a little sprout. Seeing the Maritimes in Canada through the eyes of a ballerina is something special. The first time I donned a tutu, it felt like I was stepping into a world of pure magic. And don't even get me started on the different styles - we've got everything from the classic Romantic tutu, which is basically a tulle cloud whispering, "I'm a ballerina," to the athletic and fierce contemporary tutu, showing off its sculpted edges with a hint of attitude. Thereās also the ever-popular tutus, like the dramatic "Juliet tutu," complete with tiers and intricate embroidery. Trust me, when I tell you thereās a tutu out there for everyone!
Speaking of magic, this Tuesday in Saint Mary was straight out of a fairytale! It all kicked off at the New Brunswick Ballet School, which is, I gotta say, pretty incredible. Theyāve got this cozy vibe, reminding you that dance isnāt just about performance; it's about the passion we carry with us, you know? Anyway, weāve got to get to the point - what makes this Tuesday so special is the celebration of this dance form in Canada, with a sprinkle of Saint Mary, New Brunswick, style!
Our dancers, ranging from teens with a head full of dreams to seasoned pros, brought a burst of color and life to the whole day. And it was honestly the sweetest thing to watch. There was the soft rustling of tulle as they leaped, a chorus of giggles as they perfected a pirouette, and the glow on their faces, bright enough to rival a thousand fireflies. You know, that āI'm living my dreamā kind of glow!
What truly made this Tuesday in Saint Mary shine was the diversity in styles, from ballet classes and contemporary workshops to a showcase where those "starlight stage" dreams really took flight!

- The Mini Ballerinas! We're talking pint-sized fluffballs with more attitude than you'd believe, each wearing their own, slightly smaller, version of that signature fluffy tutu! And if thereās one thing you learn as a dancer, it's that when tiny feet take flight, magic happens.
- A Workshop of "Tutu Transformations" - imagine transforming a plain leotard into a tutu wonderland. The dancers were literally making their own tulle masterpieces, which I find to be pretty darn awesome. You wouldnāt believe the creations! It was as if those fabric swatches came to life. We even saw some glitter bombs! Talk about a glam-tastic transformation!
- The Performance was Breathtaking. We witnessed both traditional ballet classics and exciting contemporary pieces. The entire atmosphere of the performance was truly moving and inspiring! You could feel the passion and commitment coming off those stage lights like a wave!
- Did I mention the cookies? Because there were definitely cookies! The bakery, a hidden gem called The Whiskery Spoon, whipped up a batch of āTutu Treatsā that were divine. Talk about icing on the cake!
