Tutu Tuesday in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan: A Dance with Style

Hey everyone, it's your girl, Chloe here, coming at you live from the heart of Saskatchewan, Fort Qu'Appelle to be precise! Today, we're celebrating Tutu Tuesday, a day dedicated to all things tutu. As a proud Canadian ballerina, I couldn't let this occasion pass by without sharing my love for the iconic dancewear. Let's get into it, shall we?

As you all know, the tutu is more than just a piece of clothing, it's a symbol of grace, elegance, and a testament to the artistry of ballet. From the delicate tulle layers of the Romantic tutu, favoured during the romantic period of ballet, to the voluminous, dramatic poufs of the Classical tutu – think The Nutcracker! – these creations have graced stages worldwide for centuries.

Growing up in Canada, I was always drawn to the beauty of ballet. We've had some incredible dancers emerge from this beautiful country. The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is just one example of Canada's contribution to the art form. From early childhood, I was mesmerized by the magical allure of the tutu, it's always seemed a little bit fairy-like.

Here are a few tutu styles I'm particularly drawn to:

  • The Romantic Tutu: I adore the romanticism and delicacy of the Romantic tutu. It embodies ethereal beauty, highlighting the feminine form and grace.
  • The Classical Tutu: I love the volume and drama of the Classical tutu. It's all about showcasing grand jetés and powerful movements. It’s really about embracing a full-on ballerinalike style!
  • The 'Short' Tutu: A favourite amongst contemporary dancers, the 'Short' tutu brings a modern vibe to the traditional. You will see dancers rocking these while highlighting modern lines and athleticism.

Let’s Get Social

Tutu Tuesday is about more than just admiring pretty dancewear, it's a day to express ourselves creatively. The #tututuesday trend on social media gives us an excuse to showcase our tutu style, be it a whimsical dance, a picture in our favourite ballet attire, or just sharing a memory of a time when a tutu had special meaning to us. It’s all about the love and passion for the iconic tutu and everything that goes with it. So get out there, Canada, and show us your #tututuesday love!

Fort Qu’Appelle’s Got Talent

Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan has a charm all its own, a beautiful mix of nature and culture. Even in the small towns and rural communities, I'm finding a passionate dance community here that loves ballet and celebrates our unique #tututuesday

I was delighted to find the “Fort Qu'Appelle Dance Academy” here in town. The talent and dedication in these young dancers are amazing, especially those getting ready for their end-of-year recital – it was such a treat to watch. I even had the pleasure of a fun little tutu fashion show with the academy students.

It truly was a memorable Tutu Tuesday! Let’s keep the passion for dance alive. Let's spread the joy, embrace our love for the tutu, and make sure we all keep our feet on the ground – and those twirls elegant!

And remember, as always, stay beautiful, stay strong, and keep on dancing. I'm out!

Cheers! Chloe
