Tutu Tuesday in Lac-Superieur, Quebec: #tututuesday It's Tutu Tuesday, everyone! This week I’m in my home town of Lac-Superieur, Quebec. I’m loving being back amongst the pines and fresh air of the Laurentians after touring with my ballet company in the big city! The crisp mountain air does something magical to my creativity. I’ve had a chance to visit some of my favorite spots and see a few old friends, but my biggest goal this trip is to catch up with my grandma! Grandma Madeleine is the original Tutu Tuesday queen! As I always say, she’s the reason I wear tutus everywhere - even outside the studio! The two of us have been brainstorming about our Tutu Tuesday traditions in Lac-Superieur, and we’ve got some exciting ideas for next week. Okay, let's talk tutus! I’m in my apartment getting ready for our monthly tutu tea, a tradition my grandma started years ago and I've picked up on. For our meeting, we will don the classic, romantic tulle tutu. It's lightweight and airy, with a delicate ruched bodice. This style is all about showcasing the fluidity and elegance of dance. My tutu will be paired with a blush coloured top or perhaps a flowing sheer blouse, the perfect match for this girly and graceful look! Grandma has a very full closet filled with tutus that span every ballet era: The classic, the romantic, the dramatic, and even the whimsical! She’s been saving them all for this moment - Tutu Tuesday. I will say, she really pulls it off in all of them! Speaking of the “dramatic” tutus, our local costume shop in downtown Lac-Superieur carries such interesting styles - everything from short, frilly numbers in vibrant colors to elegant, full-length tutus with intricate embellishments. They’re actually featuring the 1970’s era dramatic tutus at a special sale! I'm dying to try one of their 70's inspired dramatic tutus with a bright yellow top and chunky, bright, colored earrings and a headband. You just need that seventies flair to truly rock the bold tutus of this era! You know - some “flower power” if you know what I mean. You can even find tutus online these days! It’s not always necessary to look like you stepped out of a performance. I do like the fun “street style” tutus with bright colours and edgy details - you know what I’m talking about. The classic romantic tulle tutu can really look like a day to night outfit when paired with boots or high tops. We also have an afternoon plan, after our tea: Tutu Tour at Parc National du Mont-Tremblant! Grandma has decided to share the love, and bring back the joy of #tututuesday and encourage everyone in the town of Lac-Superieur to don a tutu and join her at Parc National du Mont-Tremblant to make tutu history. She’s encouraging everyone to bring their own. I am picturing an Instagram worthy, outdoor event: picturesque park scenery with hundreds of tutus – maybe even a whole troupe of ballet dancers performing en pointe. The beauty of it is that there will be tutus in every shape and style. Our ballet instructors have promised to join us. My favourite studio is called "The Ballet School of Lac-Superieur"! The local dancers have already organized to wear a matching tutu that highlights the soft blue and grey of the skies of the Laurentian mountains. Some of my ballerina friends are planning to perform some iconic excerpts from the ballet “Swan Lake.” Grandma will be teaching a beginners ballet class and I am hoping my skills are good enough for her choreography to perform with the senior students! I really love those little ballerinas! This Tutu Tuesday is going to be truly special. When grandma was just a kid, there wasn’t the global internet that exists now to discover dance cultures across the globe and the diversity in dance forms that exist in all kinds of places. The #tututuesday event that we started back in 2021 with my blog has helped change that in our local region - and for us to build the spirit of dance as a fun activity in our little town of Lac-Superieur, and for all the dancers here who want to live for their art in Canada. Our vision is that Tutu Tuesdays will one day spread from the heart of our town and become the world’s largest tutu gathering - where women of all ages will don their best and most playful tutus to come together to support our beloved art form! #tututuesday will hopefully grow and become a fun family tradition. Now, back to our Tutu Tuesday tradition! I think my tutu needs some dusting before I meet with Grandma. This event will go down in history - and my instagram! Happy Tutu Tuesday to all my lovely followers - and the town of Lac-Superieur!
