Tutu Tuesday in Wicklow, New Brunswick: A Whirlwind of Fashion and Pointe Shoes

Hey dance lovers! It's your girl, Lily, back with another dose of tutu-licious content. This week, I'm bringing the twirling and the tulle to a beautiful little town nestled in the heart of New Brunswick – Wicklow! You know how much I love my tutu Tuesdays, and I’m excited to share my adventure with you.

Stepping off the bus, I was immediately struck by the charm of this historic town. With its quaint Victorian architecture and the scent of fresh-baked goods wafting through the air, it felt like stepping into a postcard. The locals greeted me with warm smiles and friendly hellos, putting me at ease right away.

First stop? The Wicklow Public Library. Yes, you heard right! You don’t always need a stage for tutu fashion to shine, you just need an attitude! Now, I know what you're thinking – a library? What's a ballet dancer doing there? Well, let me tell you, the Wicklow library isn’t just your typical book repository. They have a beautiful art gallery featuring local artists, and they’re hosting an exhibit dedicated to the history of ballet in Canada. I was particularly intrigued by a collection of antique tutus, featuring everything from the classic romantic tutus with multiple layers of tulle to the more modern styles with their sleek lines and minimalist designs.

Next on my itinerary: The Wicklow Community Centre, where I got the chance to catch a glimpse of the local ballet school. You wouldn't believe the talent these young dancers have! They were practicing a beautiful piece by a Canadian choreographer. It’s awesome to see the passion for dance alive and thriving in smaller towns, a reminder that ballet isn’t just about big city stages, but about the love for this art form that lives in hearts all across the country. You just need the right place to nurture and share that passion. We have a thriving dance community right here in Canada, which means we get to see awesome dance forms all the time, right in our backyard!

Now, let's talk tutus. I was rocking a stunning pink tutu that was just perfect for a day of exploring. The layered tulle was soft and airy, like a cloud of cotton candy. It was all about classic romantic vibes, just what you want when you’re channeling your inner graceful ballerina.

Of course, no trip to Wicklow would be complete without a visit to their famous bakery, where I treated myself to a slice of the most delicious pecan pie I’ve ever had. And yes, even though it wasn’t quite dance-worthy attire, I rocked my tutu for that sweet treat!

While exploring the local shops, I came across a fantastic little boutique. They had some seriously cute dance-inspired clothes that I couldn't resist picking up. Some seriously fun leggings with awesome ballet-themed prints - I was hooked right away!

Tutu Tips for a Town Trip

Here are some things I’ve learned about strutting my stuff while taking in the town:

  • Pack a light-weight, versatile tutu that you can wear all day without getting too sweaty. I swear, this can get real intense! We dancers do get real warm, we’re so full of energy!
  • If you're visiting during warmer weather, keep your shoes off - or just choose shoes you can easily take on and off. Remember that ballerina beauty is all about showing off your lovely, graceful legs.
  • Layer up with light layers if you want to transition from casual strolling around town to evening cocktails!
  • Bring a big, floppy sun hat to add a touch of whimsy. Remember you're dancing your way through the day!
  • Most importantly? Just be your fabulous self!

I'm so happy I chose Wicklow for my Tutu Tuesday. It was a beautiful and vibrant town with so much to offer. I encourage everyone to head up and experience the magic for yourselves!

Until next time, remember to keep dancing your way through life! #tututuesday #WicklowNB #balletlove #balletlife #canada #dance
