Tutu Tuesday in Upper Island Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador: A Whirlwind of Tutu Trends

Hey fellow dance enthusiasts and fashionistas! It’s your girl, Claire, back with another blog post. Today’s topic? Tutu Tuesday in Upper Island Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador. It was a truly memorable experience that combined my two greatest passions - ballet and fashion.

Now, for those unfamiliar, Tutu Tuesday is a weekly celebration of all things tutus, originating right here in Canada. Every Tuesday, people across the country rock their favorite tutus, from classic ballet tutus to the more contemporary, edgy styles. It’s a fantastic way to express oneself through dancewear and embrace the sheer joy of twirling!

My journey to Upper Island Cove began with a simple invite from my friend, Sarah. A fellow dancer and fellow tutu lover, Sarah’s infectious enthusiasm for this event had me hopping on the next ferry to experience the magic for myself.

Imagine the quaintness of a small coastal town, the salt air kissing your skin, and the joyful energy of Tutu Tuesday buzzing throughout the streets. The local community hall was decked out with festive decorations, and it was there I encountered an inspiring spectrum of tutus:

  • Classical tutus, with their flowing layers of tulle and romantic charm.
  • Romantic tutus, a perfect blend of classic and modern styles, embracing a graceful silhouette.
  • Contemporary tutus, ditching the traditional fluffy layers for a more modern take with unique textures and daring cuts.
  • Funky tutus, taking a playful twist on traditional styles with vibrant colours and unexpected elements.

The day was filled with workshops, demonstrations, and impromptu performances, all with the common thread of tutus. From learning the fundamentals of ballet to showcasing different tutu styling tips, it was a celebration of dance and artistry for everyone.

I’d be remiss not to mention the heartwarming energy of the local community. They embraced Tutu Tuesday with open arms, enthusiastically participating in every activity and showering us with genuine hospitality. You could see the genuine pride they felt, seeing their town become a hub for tutu enthusiasts.

Tutu Tuesday in Upper Island Cove left me feeling inspired and exhilarated. It's a testament to the joy that ballet and fashion can bring to communities of all sizes, regardless of your location.
