Tutu Tuesday in Wembley, Alberta: A Tutu-tastic Celebration of Dance

Hey, fellow dance lovers! It’s your girl, Chloe, bringing you all the latest from the world of ballet – and today, it’s all about #TutuTuesday in Wembley, Alberta!

Wembley, nestled in the heart of the Canadian prairies, might not be the first place you think of when you imagine a vibrant ballet scene, but trust me, there's a hidden passion for dance here. And what better way to celebrate that passion than with a little Tutu Tuesday fun?

The day started with a whirlwind of tutus! We’re talking everything from classic Romantic tutus, with their soft, flowing layers, to the playful and sassy short tutus that really let you move. I even spotted a couple of “grand allegro” tutus, with their stiff, structured tiers – perfect for those grand jetés and fouettés! But honestly, my personal favourite was the adorable tutu-inspired outfit one little girl rocked: a bright pink, fluffy tutu paired with a denim jacket. So chic!

The energy was infectious. There was a sense of camaraderie amongst the tutu wearers – a shared understanding of the joy that comes with swirling and leaping in a tutu. And let me tell you, even the seasoned ballet veterans were busting out some serious moves! I'm pretty sure I even saw a couple of pirouettes in the grocery store parking lot (no judgment – I’ve totally been there, right?).

So what made this #TutuTuesday so special? For me, it wasn't just the tutus themselves; it was the sense of community. It was seeing a small town embrace its passion for dance, no matter what shape, size, or age you are. Seeing families gather in their best tutu-inspired outfits – you just knew it was more than just a day. It was a chance to connect, to express, to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. And honestly, what’s more Canadian than that?

It was a perfect reminder that ballet isn't just about perfect technique or a glamorous performance; it's about a love for the art, a love for the story you tell with your body, and the joy you get from sharing that love with others.

But Tutu Tuesday isn’t just about Wembley – it’s about the dance communities across Canada! We are lucky to be part of a country with such a rich dance tradition. From the Royal Winnipeg Ballet to the National Ballet of Canada and countless amazing independent studios across the country, Canadian dance is thriving!
