Here in Gordon, ballet is making a comeback, and with it, a renewed appreciation for the traditional tutu. Whether it’s a graceful romantic tutu with a multitude of layers and tulle or a streamlined contemporary style that emphasizes sleek, sharp lines, tutus are proving to be more than just a costume. They're a symbol of dedication, artistry, and passion for dance.

As a Canadian ballerina, I'm thrilled to see the resurgence of interest in classical ballet. Our country has a rich history of ballet, with amazing dancers and companies contributing to the world stage. We have some truly exceptional dance studios across Canada. Gordon, New Brunswick, is a testament to that fact. We've got talented ballerinas in training, showcasing their skills in gorgeous tutus.

I think the appeal of tutus lies in their transformative power. They have a way of turning you into something magical and otherworldly. From the moment you put one on, you’re transported to a world of dreams and fantasy. There’s just something about twirling in a fluffy tutu that makes you feel like a princess – or at least a super-powered fairy!

This week, I've been getting my ballet fix in Gordon. There are several dance schools here, with talented instructors who nurture a love for ballet in young aspiring dancers. You know I’m always on the lookout for up-and-coming dancers and fashion trends, and Gordon’s definitely buzzing with some exciting talent.

One studio that caught my eye was “Dance Expressions.” It’s a vibrant hub for dance lovers of all ages, with classes for both ballet and other styles. They offer several levels, from beginner to advanced, ensuring that every dancer feels supported and inspired. I had a chat with the studio owner, Suzanne LeBlanc, who told me they have a dedicated tutu collection – an amazing collection of various styles and colours to suit every taste. The studio's newest tutus – custom made for Dance Expressions from a company called ‘Tututopia’, based in Montreal – are a must-see for any tutu lover. They're whimsical, with intricate embroidery and delightful color combinations.

Suzanne told me, “It’s all about allowing young dancers to express themselves through their movements and their costumes. They can choose the tutu they feel most comfortable and confident in.”

The tutus in Dance Expressions’s collection were dazzling. I particularly loved their modern, contemporary styles. We’re seeing more and more contemporary dancers using modern tutus – sleek, simple styles that move seamlessly with the dancer’s body, like the "leotard and tulle tutu," which adds a playful flair with the tutu peeking out from under the leotard. I was even fortunate to meet a young dancer named Emily. At only eleven years old, she's already captivating the dance world with her incredible skill. She absolutely rocked a vibrant blue modern tutu during her class. Talk about future star!

For all you aspiring ballerinas out there, if you haven’t started dancing yet, Gordon is a fantastic place to get started! You never know – you could be the next prima ballerina.
