Tutu Tuesday in Wilton, Saskatchewan: A Whirlwind of Fashion and Dance

Hey everyone! It's your favourite tutu-loving blogger back at it again with another edition of #TutuTuesday. Today, we're stepping outside the city lights and heading to the heartland of Saskatchewan, specifically the charming town of Wilton! As a Canadian ballet dancer, I’m constantly seeking out the joy of ballet and the grace of tutus all across our great country, and this week, it's all about Saskatchewan style.

Now, Wilton may not be known for its high-fashion scene, but let me tell you, it's got a whole lotta charm. The town is a haven of prairie charm, and this Tutu Tuesday adventure is going to be one for the books! Just imagine, walking through a park with lush greenery, sunshine sparkling off a glistening lake, the air fresh with the smell of blooming prairie wildflowers, and me – your fabulous ballet blogger - swirling and pirouetteing in a beautiful tulle tutu. Could you picture a more idyllic setting for a #TutuTuesday? Absolutely not. Let’s dive into the fashion magic that’s swirling around me!

To start, it wouldn’t be Tutu Tuesday without the star of the show: the tutu! And oh, let me tell you, this one's a stunner. I’m rocking a custom-made tulle masterpiece in a soft shade of blush pink. The multiple layers of fine fabric swirl beautifully as I twirl, creating a cloud-like effect – just like the clouds that often float above this vast and open prairie. You see, Saskatchewan inspires me – its nature becomes part of my outfits, a delicate blending of artistry and countryside life.

It's a romantic tutu for sure, but I wanted a touch of playful sparkle, so I added a glittering sequin belt, capturing that glimmering magic that you just don’t see in city lights. It's a touch of urban elegance brought to the prairie. It's that perfect balance of the sophisticated and the casual - it totally represents the spirit of Wilton. You see, that’s how #TutuTuesday works - we capture the spirit of where we are.

What would a dancer's outfit be without a perfect pair of dance shoes? For my Tutu Tuesday journey, I’m in a pair of classic satin pointe shoes - the ultimate staple for any dancer. However, they are not the only kind of ballet shoes I have packed – in my ballet bag, I have a second pair: satin and lace flats with tiny little crystals that I bought at a shop in Winnipeg on my last Canadian Ballet tour. I’ll switch between these flats for the daytime when I’m taking in the scenery, but when it’s time for some serious dance steps on Wilton's beautiful town square, I’ll put the pointe shoes back on – ballet in all its elegance. And because I’m in the Canadian prairies, I have a warm, knit sweater and stylish knee-high socks - essential for prairie evenings.

Since we’re in Saskatchewan, we’ve got to do a little sightseeing! We are on the trail of Wilton’s history. And here's where my favourite #TutuTuesday element comes in – it's all about mixing things up! Yes, it’s about fashion and dance, but also a sprinkle of local flavour, the charm of the history.

Firstly, the park is a stunner! Rolling hills, windmills in the distance, and a clear, still pond - all making a spectacular background for some whimsical tutu poses. Oh, and I couldn’t resist striking a few graceful poses at the town’s old train station! With the sun hitting just right, it all added up to some stunning #TutuTuesday photo opportunities. I'll share some pictures on Instagram so you can join the fun!

Now, a Tutu Tuesday adventure isn’t complete without a dose of culture and some good food! A local woman named Joan invited me for a spot of tea at a charming little café, “The Village Baker.” You see, there is always an inviting warmth in the way that Canadians welcome each other. Joan's kind smile, and the way she called me "Dearie," and treated me as one of her own, reminded me what I love most about Saskatchewan’s warmth and welcoming atmosphere. I must admit I couldn't resist slipping into a quick ballet routine – you know me, gotta get a little movement in every now and again – the other patrons in the cafe just stopped to watch!

Before you know it, the sun begins to set. It was truly the perfect end to a wonderful day. But hey, you know the drill: we have more to explore in the Canadian prairies. My Tutu Tuesday adventures are just beginning, so stay tuned. If you're reading this in Wilton, say hi! Let’s share a dance together. You know you want to!
