Tutu Tuesday in Creighton, Saskatchewan: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion

Hey everyone, it’s your girl, Clara, back with another dose of dance and fashion. And guess what? Today’s all about Tutu Tuesday in Creighton, Saskatchewan! This small prairie town might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of ballet, but trust me, the love of dance is alive and well here.

As a ballerina and a lover of all things sparkly, Tutu Tuesday has become my favourite day of the week. It’s a time to embrace the joy of dance, showcase my love for all things tulle and embrace the magical world of ballet. From the classically elegant, white, single layer, Romantic style to the elaborate multi-layered, frothy, voluminous, modern, and neoclassical ones; my closet is overflowing with tutus and each day brings the fun and excitement of choosing which one to wear.

So what exactly is Tutu Tuesday, you ask? It’s a playful, light-hearted celebration of tutus. A time when we encourage everyone to grab their most flamboyant and fun tutu and wear it with pride.

Creighton, with its quaint streets, has a special place in my heart. It’s where I learned to appreciate the beauty of small-town living, where I was introduced to the magical world of ballet and where I developed my love for fashion. It might surprise some people that in this town with its prairie skies and friendly faces, the love of dance burns brightly.

So this past Tuesday, the town of Creighton transformed into a swirling sea of tulle and lace. Everywhere I looked, I saw girls and boys – even the odd grandparent! - sporting their favourite tutus with smiles brighter than a ballerina’s spotlight. There were tutus in every colour imaginable, from soft pastels to vibrant neons. There were tutus of all shapes and sizes, with feathers, sequins, and even some handmade embellishments.

The air was filled with laughter and chatter, as people admired each other’s unique tutus. Even the local bakery had a special Tutu Tuesday promotion, offering cupcakes adorned with little edible tulle skirts – pure genius!

This is what I love about Tutu Tuesday. It's not just about tutus, it’s about bringing the community together. It’s a celebration of individuality, creativity, and joy. It's a reminder that dance, like fashion, can be a powerful form of expression.
