Hey dance fam! It's your girl, Marie-Claire, here, fresh off a killer class at the Sainte-Ursule Ballet School. And guess what? It's Tutu Tuesday!
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Tutu Tuesday? That sounds like a blast from the past!" But trust me, this tradition is anything but outdated. Here in Canada, ballet is thriving. From the national ballet companies in Toronto and Montreal to smaller schools like the one in Sainte-Ursule, passion for the art form is alive and well. And, well, a Tutu is a timeless classic.
Every Tuesday at Sainte-Ursule Ballet, we're celebrating our love for dance with a sprinkle of sartorial fun. We all show up in our finest tutus – think classic, romantic, playful, modern – whatever makes our hearts (and tutus) flutter. It's a chance to showcase our style, embrace the spirit of ballet, and connect with our fellow dancers on a whole new level.
Speaking of tutus, let's talk styles. It's been a wild ride, and we've seen some epic ensembles this month:
- Classic Romantic: We can't forget the OG. The classic Romantic tutu, with its layered tulle skirt and short bodice, exudes elegance and grace. Picture a whimsical fairytale princess, a touch of ethereal magic - think Swan Lake or Giselle. We're loving those romantic touches of soft, sheer layers, and the long, flowing skirts. Those classic tutus can go with a simple white bodice, or even a bright coloured leotard with lace, sequins, or a statement belt.

Think fitted leotards and minimalist skirts - perfect for showcasing dynamic movements and expressing modern themes. You know that sassy feeling you get during a piece like "In The Middle, Somewhat Elevated." Those splashes of bold color and architectural structure that make you feel strong. Love it!
- The Playful Pop of Color: This Tutu's a mood-booster. It can be anything, and a rainbow of colors! Let's get wild. Those bright pops of colour - fuchsia, teal, tangerine. It adds a youthful energy and a vibrant energy, kind of like choreographer's take on a Broadway show like "The Greatest Showman!"
- The Chic Simplicity: This tutu screams elegance and minimalism, with sleek, modern lines and a refined palette. It’s all about showing off graceful, controlled movements with a timeless sense of style. It's the perfect combo of athleticism and grace. A simple black leotard, and a streamlined skirt. We're thinking "Black Swan" meets "The Matrix"!
