Tutu Tuesday in Weldford, New Brunswick: A Whirlwind of Tutu-ific Styles! #tututuesday

Hey there, fellow dance enthusiasts! It’s your girl, Chloe, back with another installment of my beloved “Tutu Tuesday” blog. This week, we’re taking our tutus on a road trip to the charming town of Weldford, New Brunswick.

Okay, so Weldford might not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of “ballet capital” of Canada (we all know it’s Toronto, right?), but hear me out. This little town is bursting with artistic spirit, and, as a Canadian ballet dancer, I believe in celebrating the love of dance wherever we find it! So, put on your favourite pair of pointe shoes and join me on a sartorial adventure through Weldford’s tutu scene. We’re gonna have a blast, eh?

First Stop: The Weldford Ballet School

Let’s be real, there’s no better place to start our Tutu Tuesday exploration than the heart of Weldford’s dance scene – the Weldford Ballet School. It's been a fixture in the community for years, nurturing generations of young dancers. Their motto, "Dance like nobody’s watching," perfectly encapsulates the passion and dedication of these dancers. Now, what really caught my eye were the incredible tutus these dancers were wearing.

  • The Classico Collection: Talk about classics! They've got the classic "Romantic Tutu," made with layers upon layers of soft, white tulle. A little slice of ballet heaven for anyone who appreciates the elegant simplicity of traditional ballet.
  • The Modern Moves: And then there’s the “Contemporary Tutu.” It was like a breath of fresh air. Less traditional and more playful. The colours were vibrant - shades of teal and magenta swirling like a dance floor under the stage lights.
  • The ‘Something New’ Special: They also had the coolest new "Neoclassical Tutu". Now, I’m not just talking about a splash of colour, we're talking structural variations, layered with ribbons, sheer fabrics, and edgy geometric lines, defying traditional boundaries in the most wonderful way!

The tutus weren't the only thing dazzling. The students, aged five to sixteen, showcased an astonishing range of talent, whether they were twirling through a graceful arabesque or performing powerful leaps and turns. Every movement oozed with passion and energy!

The Cafe with the ‘Tutu Touch’

Next, our tutus took us on a culinary adventure to "The Pastry Plum," Weldford’s cutest little cafe. It’s run by this incredible baker, who happens to be a passionate ballet enthusiast (just like me!), so of course, they have to have a "Tutu Tuesday" special. Today it’s a raspberry-lemon tart, with the most delicate flaky crust that practically dances on your tongue! Talk about flavourful and delightful! And the “Tutu Mocha” – perfectly blended coffee with a hint of chocolate and a whipped cream crown! So good, it deserves its own round of applause!

The Cafe also has the coolest 'Tutu Tuesdays’ theme they incorporate into their decor each month! Imagine: One week the whole cafe is adorned with tulle and bows. Another week, the tables are topped with little, miniature ballet shoes as centrepieces! Every week, it's like stepping into a different ballet-themed world!

The Weldford Craft Market

You guys are not gonna believe what we discovered next! Turns out, Weldford has a bi-weekly craft market that is a haven for artists, creators, and yes, tutu-lovers.

  • Tutu Treasures Galore: The vendors were brimming with artistic inspiration. Hand-sewn tutus were in every shape, size, and color, some made from upcycled fabrics. You could practically feel the love and craftsmanship poured into each one!
  • DIY Tutu Workshop: My favourite part? This incredible little booth with a 'Do-It-Yourself' tutu workshop, where anyone could choose from an array of sparkly fabrics, tulle, and feathers to create their own personal tutu masterpiece! Now, that’s my kind of Tutu Tuesday fun!
  • The Tutu Boutique: And oh, the beautiful custom tutus I saw - from delicate pale pinks and blues to vibrant emerald greens, shimmering silvers, and gold. Each design was truly one-of-a-kind and the quality was outstanding! If you ever need a new, handcrafted tutu, Weldford's craft market is your new happy place.

It’s so inspiring to see how Weldford’s residents are taking ownership of their own creative expressions and celebrating dance in their unique way!
