Tutu Tuesday in Emo, Ontario, Canada #tututuesday

Hey everyone! It’s your favourite ballet-obsessed Canadian blogger, Sarah, back with another Tutu Tuesday! I know what you’re thinking - Emo, Ontario? What in the world is going on out there? Trust me, this small town holds a surprising amount of dance charm. But before we dive into the tutu action, let’s talk about the weather! Oh, Canada, we have to love your four seasons, especially the unpredictable ones that keep us guessing, right? Well, today is a bit of a rollercoaster, with sunny spells followed by showers and a gentle breeze - the perfect mix for twirling without sweating too much.

I've always believed that ballet isn't confined to city centres or grand stages, it's everywhere! I'm here in Emo for the week visiting my grandma who's a bit of a tutu enthusiast. Yes, you heard that right - a grandma who loves tutus! You know the kind - the quintessential tutu lover, all pink tulle and sparkly slippers. Honestly, she’s more than just a bit of a tutu enthusiast. She's the queen of tutus. Let's be honest, with all those layers, we all have that little bit of a queen in us when we’re wearing our tutus.

But this is #tututuesday, so let’s talk tutu trends! When it comes to tutus, you really can’t go wrong. They’re all beautiful, but what really excites me is discovering how each one adds a different vibe to the style, whether it's a romantic vibe or the sophisticated grace that only a true princess could carry off! But Emo? Is it even possible to have a *real* tutu Tuesday here? It's Emo, after all.

Here in Emo, we're seeing some real gems, ladies and gentlemen. Just wait until I tell you about Grandma’s collection. You see, she started her tutu journey long before those tutus became a hot fashion trend. In the days when it wasn't a #tututuesday hashtag thing - we’re talking before the early 2000’s fashion craze – she was a true tutu pioneer. It’s like a living fashion history lesson. In a world of tutu envy, her collection could put any ballerina to shame.

We’re all used to tutus as part of classic ballet style. That white romantic, frilly one, but I’ve been noticing that today there are a surprising variety of tutus out there. There’s more than just a simple one-tier white tulle. Grandma’s got some real stunners.

She has:

  • Classic Ballet Tutus: You can’t go wrong with a classic! The romantic layers are so much fun, plus you can pair them up with everything from ballet flats to simple T-shirts. Grandma’s have the most gorgeous pink, yellow and lavender colour shades!
  • Mini tutus - You heard that right - mini tutus! We all saw those come onto the fashion scene back in the day but now they’re back again! It’s the ‘fashion is a cycle’ philosophy in full effect.
  • Party Tutus - Sparkly and bold and ready to get you noticed! They’re also an absolute blast for when you’re feeling adventurous with your fashion choices!
  • Rainbow Tutus – Rainbow is the new black and it’s definitely a fashion winner this season - from head to toe – and Grandma has the rainbow tutus to match.
  • A tutu that she designed herself – The creative tutu queen, right here, and it’s a total knockout.

Her tutu collection is incredible, a veritable treasure trove of vintage and modern tutus. They’re each imbued with a unique story, each a reminder of different moments in her life, her love of dance, her own life as a ballerina (she used to be in a community ballet group, back in the day!), and her personal style - her ‘tutu style’ as she calls it! Even today, she's got an undeniable joie de vivre that shows in every move she makes.

We took a quick walk down memory lane, and you know what? I had no idea the tutu could be so versatile and enduring. I’ve learnt a lot this #tututuesday!

You want to know a secret? Grandma says that her very favourite kind of tutu is one she doesn’t wear - the one that makes her look good on other people. Now, that’s true passion! Just listening to her talk about tutus and her ballerina days inspires me to push myself in dance and my personal style!

It's funny - back in Emo, the local town centre isn’t a high fashion place but today it definitely felt like a runway for the tutu. Everyone has been a bit inspired! There were tutu accessories galore - tutus for every outfit, even a tutu-dressed dog - adorable, right? – plus sparkly ballet flats, all decked out in their own little tutu-style fashion.

But what surprised me the most was the genuine love for dance, the pure passion for expression. A tiny little town like Emo with this big heart! A surprising contrast. Emo and tutus…what a brilliant combination, if I must say so myself. In an area where you wouldn’t usually associate tutus and a high-fashion moment, there’s something quite remarkable about a tutu appearing, especially with an elder’s permission!

And now I want to say something truly special. The amazing tutus that Grandma shared were a real blessing today, and the inspiration for this #tututuesday post. There are always new things to learn - in style and in life! It’s true that you can find the beauty of ballet anywhere, in any city or town! It's all about embracing joy, and tutus are a delightful way to express your individuality - they’re more than just fashion, they’re about feeling your power! But what really caught my attention was seeing Grandma embrace the trend with such enthusiasm! It showed me how age has no bounds and that style is truly for every person – it’s about individuality! This is definitely one #tututuesday I will never forget.

If you're thinking of wearing a tutu today, give it a try! It’s time to break out of your fashion comfort zone and join the fun. Share your favourite tutu looks with us. We would love to see your tutu style. Who knows – you might inspire a fellow tutu enthusiast in your town. Just remember - always bring the tutus!”

Love,

Sarah
