Tutu Tuesday in Oxbow, Saskatchewan: A Ballet Blogger's Ode to the Tutu

Hey everyone, it's your favourite Canadian ballet blogger back at it again with another #tututuesday post! Today, I'm channeling my inner ballerina (and by channeling, I mean literally putting on a tutu) right here in the heart of Saskatchewan, Oxbow, to be precise. It's a town with big skies, even bigger hearts, and... well, maybe not a lot of ballet studios, but who needs them when you can have your very own Tutu Tuesday, eh?

I've been on a bit of a road trip across Canada, and let me tell you, this little prairie town is something special. It's got that small-town charm you just don't find in the big city, where everyone knows everyone and the main street is lined with charming boutiques. And let's not forget the prairies! Oh my goodness, they are vast, stunning, and truly breathtaking. They have this golden hue that almost shimmers, and with every sunset, it's like a painting that changes before your very eyes.

Now, back to the tutu. Today, I'm wearing a classic Romantic tutu – you know, the fluffy, airy ones with multiple layers of tulle, perfect for those dramatic leaps and graceful pirouettes. You can definitely feel the history of ballet swirling around you in this style. It's been a staple of classical ballets like "Giselle" and "Swan Lake" for centuries, and there's just something about that ethereal quality that takes your breath away.

But enough about me and my fashion choices (for now), let's talk about ballet in Canada. You might not expect to find a bustling ballet scene in Oxbow, Saskatchewan, but that doesn't mean it's not thriving! The spirit of ballet is alive and well all across this beautiful country.

  • From the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto to smaller, more intimate dance companies scattered across the provinces, the passion for ballet is undeniably strong in Canadian hearts. It's a vibrant art form that's rooted in history yet continues to evolve and innovate. And for me, there's nothing quite like witnessing a live performance that transports you to a different world, filled with emotion, grace, and captivating storytelling.
  • Speaking of storytelling, let me tell you a little something about ballet. It's more than just twirling around in a pretty dress (though that is pretty darn fun). It's a universal language that transcends borders and cultures. Ballet speaks to the heart, reminding us of the strength, vulnerability, and beauty that lies within us all.

Anyway, as much as I'd love to rave about ballet all day long (because let's be honest, I could do it for hours!), I also want to share some of my #tututuesday must-haves.

  • First, let's talk shoes. No ballet ensemble is complete without the perfect pair of pointe shoes, those magical, custom-fit works of art that allow you to dance on the tips of your toes (yes, you read that right, ON THE TIPS OF YOUR TOES). The artistry involved in crafting these shoes is phenomenal - just the perfect amount of strength and flexibility, combined with a design that fits like a second skin.
  • Another key ingredient for the ultimate Tutu Tuesday is your hair! The ballerina bun, that tight, sleek bun that lets you go from class to performance and back again, it's like a staple for every ballet dancer (and for some reason, I think it’s so cute).
  • Now, for some additional advice – consider a classic white tutu, you know the type you think of when you imagine ballerinas, but get ready to mix it up! Think colourful ribbons, sparkling accents or maybe even some quirky patterned fabrics for a little edge!

And to my fellow ballet enthusiasts out there – embrace the world of tutu. It's not about being perfect, but about expressing yourself through movement, pushing your boundaries, and feeling the magic of ballet in your soul! Keep on twirling, keep on dancing, and don't forget to spread that ballet love! Until next week, fellow Tutu Tuesday enthusiasts, remember: the world is your stage. And don't forget to tag #tututuesday when you share your own Tutu Tuesday pics! #TutuTuesday #Oxbow #Saskatchewan
