Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Hugues, Quebec: A Tutu-tastic Day Out

Hey everyone! It's your favourite ballet-loving blogger, back with another post from the fabulous world of dance. Today, I'm diving headfirst into the magical, whimsical world of #tututuesday and sharing with you all my experiences from a delightful day out in the charming town of Saint-Hugues, Quebec.

Now, you might be wondering, "What is Tutu Tuesday? What does it even mean?" Well, it's basically an unofficial celebration of all things tutus, where we embrace the grace and beauty of these iconic dancewear pieces and wear them out and about, proudly displaying our love for ballet.

As a dancer myself, I've always had a soft spot for tutus. Those layers of tulle, the ethereal feeling, the sheer magic that they evoke...they're simply irresistible! They are, after all, the epitome of ballet, a symbol of dedication, artistry, and the relentless pursuit of excellence that comes with this demanding yet rewarding dance form.

The day started early, with my ballet bag packed and ready, filled with not just my standard ballet gear but also my Tutu Tuesday masterpiece – a sparkling pink tutu that was a little less traditional but definitely more me. We're talking layered tulle, vibrant pink sequins that catch the sunlight like little diamonds, and a flowy design that allows for easy movement (and even a few twirls on the street!)

We're also in Canada here, where the winters can be harsh, and the winters are certainly what came to mind as I added my thick black leggings and warm black boots to the mix, to complete my look and make my tutu even more versatile.

First stop on the agenda: a visit to the delightful Café l’Ange Gardien, known for its fantastic coffee and pastries. The aroma of fresh-baked croissants lured us in, and what better way to kick off a #tututuesday than with a little French treat, served on a cute Parisian-style table outside the cafe.

There, amongst the friendly faces and lively conversations, I finally decided to twirl. Why not? Tutu Tuesday in a beautiful town, with fantastic pastries and even better company. What's not to love? The twirl went off without a hitch, and it earned me more than a few smiles and a couple of "Tres chic!" compliments from locals.

With my energy levels boosted by caffeine and pastry, we strolled around Saint-Hugues, admiring its charming architecture and taking in the relaxed atmosphere. Each corner we turned seemed to offer another picturesque vista or a photo op that was just begging to be captured on camera. You can find gorgeous Victorian buildings alongside lovely historic chapels, surrounded by green spaces that feel like you are on vacation. That's how beautiful Saint-Hugues truly is. My tutu provided the perfect touch of whimsical beauty to these perfect settings.

Next, we made our way to the local arts and crafts market, hoping to find some unique treasures that celebrated the artistry of Saint-Hugues. It was an explosion of color and creativity. From handcrafted pottery to delicate jewellery to handmade woven textiles, there was something for everyone. And naturally, as a true ballet aficionado, I found my heart skipping a beat at a stall showcasing exquisitely crafted miniature ballet shoes.

And of course, the day wasn't complete without a visit to the quaint and historic St. Hugues Church. Standing proudly on a hill overlooking the town, it exuded an undeniable sense of peace and serenity. It’s a beautiful building with gothic accents in a rich blue hue and intricate detail – from the stained-glass windows that lit up the interior with dazzling colours to the ornate carvings adorning its walls.

As the day drew to a close, a wave of happiness washed over me. I realised how powerful and joyful #tututuesday can be. It was a reminder that we should never be afraid to express our passion and love for something beautiful – and sometimes, even to embrace a little bit of magic in our everyday lives, be it through a twirl on a street corner or simply a charming visit to a historic town.

For me, this day wasn't just about the tutu itself. It was about sharing the joy of dance with a new community, and getting to know some of the friendly faces that make Saint-Hugues so special.

So, dear readers, if you're ever in the neighbourhood of Saint-Hugues, Quebec, be sure to plan a #tututuesday adventure of your own. Embrace the beauty of dance, don a fabulous tutu (or two!), and discover the magic of ballet in one of Canada's most charming towns. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

And if you decide to take on a tutu adventure of your own, I'd love to see it! Be sure to share your photos using #tututuesday so we can all revel in the sheer joy of ballet, together!
