Tutu Tuesday in Vauxhall, Alberta: A Celebration of Whirlwind Skirts and Canadian Ballet

It's Tuesday, and you know what that means? It's Tutu Tuesday! I'm your resident ballet enthusiast and fashion-loving blogger, here to celebrate all things tulle, frills, and twirling. This week, I'm taking my love for the classic dancewear to the streets of Vauxhall, Alberta, a charming town known for its community spirit and wide-open spaces. Who knew that a place synonymous with agriculture could also embrace a love for the elegance of a classic tutu?

Now, Vauxhall may not be the most obvious location for a Tutu Tuesday extravaganza. We don't have the iconic Royal Winnipeg Ballet performing right in our midst, nor the grand ballet halls of the National Ballet of Canada just a hop, skip, and jump away. But, Vauxhall has something else: a genuine spirit of fun, a love for community, and a willingness to embrace the unexpected. So, when I pitched the idea of a #Tututuesday photo shoot in the town's beautiful central park, the response was overwhelming. Everyone, from the local café owner to the high school students, jumped onboard with smiles and enthusiasm. I think it resonated with people – the chance to have a little fun, to dress up in a way that brings joy, and to embrace the simple magic of a tutu. After all, who doesn't love a good twirl?

And twirl we did! I was absolutely amazed by the variety of tutu styles on display. There were the traditional "classical" tutus with the layered tulle, perfect for capturing a romantic and graceful silhouette. These beauties paired with ballerina flats added to the classic look, and those of us with some more "stage experience" even added a little plie' and relevé to the mix, a shout-out to our ballet days. Some were in playful shorter versions with vibrant, colourful designs – they even came equipped with poofy bows for maximum cute factor. Of course, no #tututuesday photoshoot would be complete without a couple of tulle skirts in more edgy styles. I saw one particularly fantastic outfit - a black, fitted mini dress, teamed with a flowy tulle skirt. The skirt had little studs and embellishments all over it, it felt like punk and ballet had a baby and it was wearing the outfit. It was sassy, yet sophisticated, and perfectly represented the versatile spirit of a tutu.

But let me tell you, the true highlight of the day wasn't just about the tutus, but about the genuine, heartfelt spirit of everyone who participated. There were laughs, impromptu twirls, and even a little friendly competition for the most impressive spin. Some were even caught doing grand jeté-inspired jumps across the park. You could feel a contagious energy spreading, reminding us all of the power of lightheartedness and the joy of finding fun in the everyday. And even if we couldn't all be ballerinas, that didn't matter. What mattered was that we were celebrating movement, expression, and whimsy.

Vauxhall, you've captured a piece of my heart. Your Tutu Tuesday made me realise that fashion is not just about clothes, it's about celebrating ourselves, our community, and the moments that make life a little brighter. This #tututuesday photoshoot has definitely inspired me. I want to continue bringing a bit of ballet magic to the places I travel, showing the world the joy that comes with whirlwind skirts and embracing the beautiful dance of life. Let’s share the spirit of Tutu Tuesday – from Vauxhall to every town and city across Canada.

Here are my favorite #Tututuesday snapshots: * **The "classic" ballet look:** The iconic long and flowy layered tulle skirts with pointe shoes and a delicate flower headband in the centre of a luscious flower garden. * **The "vintage ballet" look:** This one is always elegant, a light-toned tutu in a pale lilac colour, matched with a stylish hat for a modern touch. * **The "sporty tutu" look:** We had a tutu made out of a high-performance material for ultimate flexibility - we did cartwheels and splits in it, and the flow was beautiful in motion. * **The "urban tutu" look:** For those who prefer something edgier, the grey tulle skirt, paired with a cropped denim jacket and a pair of black boots, created an awesome street style fusion.

Whether it's on the stage or in the heart of Vauxhall, Alberta, the Tutu Tuesday movement continues to grow and remind us that a simple act of wearing a tutu can be a powerful statement, a symbol of community, joy, and the beauty of embracing a little bit of whimsy.
