Tutu Tuesday in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan: A Whirlwind of Tutu Love

Hey everyone, it's your girl, Sarah from Sarah's Pointe Shoes! This week, I'm taking my love of tutus beyond the studio and bringing it to the heart of Saskatchewan: Foam Lake. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Foam Lake? Saskatchewan? What on earth is happening out there?" Trust me, this is a story you don't want to miss.

For those who don't know, Tutu Tuesday is a global phenomenon that brings tutus out of the dance world and into everyday life. It's all about embracing the joy, the elegance, and the pure fun that a tutu can bring, no matter your age or dance experience. It's about shaking things up, reminding ourselves to twirl a little more, and reminding others that ballet can be for everyone, anywhere.

But why Foam Lake, you ask? Well, Foam Lake is a small town, tucked away in the heart of Saskatchewan, known more for its charming prairies than its fashion scene. This is exactly why it was the perfect location for our Tutu Tuesday extravaganza. The residents were so welcoming, and the whole town just embraced the spirit of Tutu Tuesday with open arms. We had everything from kids rocking tutus in their schoolyard to grandmothers twirling on Main Street.

Here's a glimpse of the magical day:

  • The local coffee shop was a haven of tulle. We saw tutus of every shade: from the classic pink to the bolder, modern black tutus, some even decked out in bold patterns and prints. You could say there was something for everyone.
  • At the park, we even witnessed a group of men dressed up in "tutu suits", perfectly blending comfort and a touch of elegance! The classic lines of these costumes created a fun juxtaposition to the casual vibes of their attire. The reaction from those walking by was a mix of joy, curiosity, and amusement. Let me tell you, seeing those smiles from people was worth the long drive to Saskatchewan!
  • We also saw the heartwarming sight of the local ice cream shop offering a “Tutu Tuesday special”, a yummy treat of a swirl of vanilla ice cream dipped in sprinkles with a small chocolate bar on top.

It was clear to see that the essence of the day was about embracing a whimsical spirit. It felt like we had found a place where being ourselves, rocking a tulle-tastic look, and laughing it up was not just encouraged, it was expected.

To be honest, Foam Lake's version of Tutu Tuesday showed me something incredibly important about ballet. You don’t have to be a professional dancer in a fancy studio to experience the joy, beauty, and artistry that it holds. There are layers to it that are more profound than most might expect. From a fashion perspective, the various styles of tutus and pointe shoes in a ballet class were just a peek into what the world of ballet held, from the playful innocence of the simple layered “practice” tutu to the sheer beauty and precision required by the traditional pointe shoe of a classic ballet.

As a dancer myself, the most memorable moment was seeing a young girl at the Foam Lake school yard twirling around. She wasn't a seasoned ballerina, she wasn't even part of a class, but that didn't matter. She was moving like she owned the world. Those are the kinds of experiences that make all the work worth it. It’s moments like these that remind me that ballet has this incredible power to connect people and foster a spirit of joy in communities that span cities and countries, and this is how Tutu Tuesday will continue to thrive!

To the wonderful folks of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan: thank you for embracing the joy and creativity that comes with Tutu Tuesday. You've shown us that you can dance, you can embrace the whimsy, you can spread joy all in your own unique, prairie-town style!

Stay tuned for more updates on Tutu Tuesday from other towns and cities! In the meantime, don't be afraid to wear your tutu with pride! Just remember, no matter where you are, remember: #tututuesday.
