Tutu Tuesday in Eston, Saskatchewan #tututuesday

Hey there, dance lovers! It’s your girl, Sarah, back with another #tututuesday post. This week, I’m taking you on a little adventure to the heart of Saskatchewan – Eston, to be precise. I know what you’re thinking – Eston? That’s way out in the middle of nowhere! But trust me, this little town has some serious style, especially when it comes to tutus!

Now, you might be thinking that ballet and Saskatchewan are two things that don’t normally go hand in hand. Well, you’d be right… sort of. We don’t exactly have the Royal Opera House in the prairies, but let me tell you – passion for the arts runs deep in Eston, and that includes ballet. I found some amazing young dancers with serious talent here, taking their practice super seriously – like, getting up early on the weekend for a tutu-wearing ballet bootcamp serious. The dedication is inspiring!

I caught up with the crew at their local studio and let me tell you – the vibe was electric. And I don’t just mean from the dance moves (though they were incredible). There was so much enthusiasm for everything ballet – it’s really contagious. They all have such amazing personal styles. Some girls rocking the classic romantic tutus with billowing layers of tulle and a soft, ethereal look. Others digging the more modern styles, sleek and minimalist, with dramatic lines and statement details – even some creative reimagining of tutus with fabrics and embellishments that pushed the boundaries, and were honestly really avant-garde! And all of them? Full of sparkle. I mean, it's practically mandatory in a ballet studio. I had to dig deep to find my favourite look, but after some serious debate with myself, I think I gotta go with the layered tulle romantic tutus - classic and ethereal. Totally screams 'Saskatchewan summer' to me!

As always, it’s not just about the tutus though. It’s about the passion, the discipline, and the dedication that goes into every pirouette, every leap, and every step. These girls prove that you don't have to live in the city to experience the magic of ballet. The heart of ballet lies in the love for the art, and these young dancers show that. Their story reminds me just how connected the ballet community truly is - even across provinces. Even the vast plains of Saskatchewan have their own stage. That's the thing about ballet - it sparks something within us all. It’s an expression, a story, and a way to connect. Maybe I should try organizing a Saskatchewan ballet festival – imagine all that amazing Sask energy!

So, let's all show some love for these future stars of the stage. You can bet I'll be back next week to check in with more dancing highlights and tutu inspo.

Here’s a look at some of my favourite styles from my trip, #tututuesday style.

  • Romantic tutu: Classic with multiple layers of billowing tulle. Just as pretty and ethereal in person. It perfectly captures the spirit of ballet – grace and delicacy.
  • Modern tutu: Sleek lines, simple design. Minimalism never gets old, and that's a major mood here.
  • Contemporary tutu: Think modern and a bit edgy, not your typical "pretty ballet girl" look - though in a good way. I loved how creative it got!
  • The “Everything” Tutu: Sparkle is EVERYTHING - you can never have too much glitter.

Okay, gotta wrap things up here. Hope you’re inspired to take your love for ballet on an adventure and remember, you never know what incredible things you might discover on the journey. Happy #tututuesday!
