Tutu Tuesday in McCreary, Manitoba: A Tutu-ful Adventure #tututuesday Okay, fellow tutu enthusiasts, grab your pointe shoes and a cup of Tim Hortons because we're taking a trip to the prairies for Tutu Tuesday! I've been on a whirlwind tour across Canada, sharing the joy of ballet and all things tutus. This week, I found myself in McCreary, Manitoba, a charming town known for its stunning prairie landscapes and surprisingly vibrant arts scene. It wouldn't be Tutu Tuesday without a touch of glamour, so I picked a tutu that really embraced the prairie spirit: a flowing, layered tulle tutu in earthy tones of ochre, terracotta, and amber. The gentle breeze swirling the tulle as I twirled felt like a tribute to the endless expanse of the prairies. And hey, I might have even incorporated a few poppy-inspired embellishments just for fun. I know, I know, what’s a ballet dancer doing in McCreary? You might be thinking, "Is there even a ballet studio out there?". Well, my friends, that's where you'd be wrong. While there may not be a full-fledged professional company, the spirit of ballet is definitely alive and well in this beautiful town. The local community centre is buzzing with activity, and their dance program offers a variety of classes, including a ballet class for the littlest dancers. And I gotta say, these little movers and shakers are some of the most enthusiastic and dedicated dancers I've ever met! Watching them gracefully pirouette in their little pink tutus filled me with pure joy. McCreary embraced Tutu Tuesday with open arms, and I spent the day spreading the love for ballet with the locals. From teaching a beginner's ballet workshop to a group of kids to hosting a "Tutu Tea" for the ladies at the local seniors centre, the day was filled with giggles, grace, and plenty of tutus, of course. Speaking of tutus, the highlight of my day had to be the visit to the McCreary Museum. Now, this isn’t your typical museum, but their collection included some surprisingly stylish historical costumes. It turns out that tutus were a common feature in Victorian-era theatre productions! The elaborate tutus they had on display were definitely the inspiration for some of my recent costume creations – and trust me, a vintage-inspired tutu with some modern flair will be the star of my next blog post. You know, exploring small towns like McCreary isn’t just about discovering hidden gems and celebrating Tutu Tuesday; it’s about connecting with the heart of Canada. Seeing how communities across the country are embracing ballet and sharing its magic fills me with a profound sense of purpose. Here are some of the highlights from my Tutu Tuesday in McCreary: - Visiting the local museum and marveling at their vintage ballet costumes. - Gracing the McCreary town square with my twirling in a flowy tulle tutu that looked straight out of a prairie sunset. - Spending time with the delightful kids in the community centre’s dance program. - Inspiring the community to dance through a beginner's ballet workshop – no matter their age or skill level! - Enjoying a delightful "Tutu Tea" at the local seniors center, where we had tea, treats, and some seriously good conversations about life, ballet, and everything in between. - Discovering the hidden artistry and cultural spirit of this wonderful Manitoba town.
