Tutu Tuesday in Stockport: A Whirlwind of Tutu-tastic Styles

As a professional ballerina, tutus are my lifeblood. From the classic romantic tutu with its layers of tulle, to the sleek, contemporary style with its modern lines and minimal layers, each one embodies a different aspect of dance, of artistry. So you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon a social media trend that was dedicated entirely to tutus!

It all started with the hashtag #Tututuesday. Every Tuesday, dancers and dance enthusiasts from around the globe are encouraged to post photos of themselves in their finest tutu attire. I've been a fan since day one, watching my feed fill up with all kinds of amazing tutus - from fluffy pastel beauties perfect for classical ballets to edgy, dramatic black tutus that would look incredible in a modern contemporary piece.

I love how #Tututuesday transcends dance disciplines and allows all of us to embrace our inner ballerina, no matter our background.

And it's not just the tutus themselves that I enjoy - I adore seeing the sheer creativity and fun that people bring to their #Tututuesday looks. It's amazing how people interpret the trend! I've seen tutus paired with everything from casual jeans to glamorous gowns, and people using the hashtag in all kinds of quirky and unexpected ways! Some people are recreating famous ballet scenes in their home kitchens. Others are dressing up their pets! It's really inspiring.

The best part about it all? It's inclusive, it's empowering, and it's plain old fun. So naturally, I had to take my own #Tututuesday look out for a spin. But instead of my usual dance studio or local park, I decided to explore my own home town: Stockport.

Now, you wouldn't think of Stockport as a fashion hotbed, but the truth is that the town has a thriving arts scene and a whole lot of character.

This was my day. And my tutu of choice? I decided on a sleek, black tutu with a high waist and fitted bodice. I paired it with a white cotton blouse and black leather jacket - think ballerina meets biker chick, if you will. I wanted something bold, something that would stand out against the cobbled streets and the old-fashioned architecture of Stockport.

I started my day at the Market Place, a buzzing hive of activity with local producers selling fresh produce and artisan goods. My sleek tutu immediately drew curious glances from the locals! The market had a certain old-world charm that somehow enhanced the modern vibe of the tutu - I felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the traditional traders. I imagine that it made a welcome change from the usual sight of Stockport's shoppers - there are always so many fabulous coats on show! Maybe I'll even inspire a few locals to rock a tutu one Tuesday?

I took a wander through the cobblestone streets of Stockport, admiring the charming shops and quaint buildings. I stopped at one of the vintage clothing stores to take in the classic elegance of their clothing. And that's where I met Susan - she owns a vintage clothes store tucked away on a backstreet. I always pop in when I'm looking for a unique item - my entire collection of hats come from this amazing little shop!

"Fabulous outfit, dear," Susan said. "A tutu in Stockport is certainly a statement piece!" And she's not wrong, you know! Stockport, well, it's full of interesting characters and I'd always wanted to embrace a look that reflected the independent spirit of the town, which is always looking to express its creativity.

But the day wasn't about just shopping - I also took in some of Stockport's amazing landmarks, like Stockport Market Hall and the grand, Victorian St Peter's Square. My tutu felt right at home in the grandeur of the Square. You could tell I felt at home because I couldn't resist twirling in front of the impressive town hall and its manicured lawns. I mean, who could resist? The sight of a lone figure, wearing a tulle skirt and enjoying a little waltz in a charming square, has a captivating charm. My Tutu was getting the most adoring looks!

After exploring the historical town center, I headed to the bustling Stockport Underbanks. It's a historic, subterranean street with a unique character that really appeals to me! It has an artistic feel and it reminds me of a magical, little fairy tale underground village! A little off the beaten track, Stockport's underground lanes feel worlds away from the town centre, even though they are practically next to one another! The black tutu worked wonderfully with the gothic arches, hidden shops and exposed brickwork.

My #Tututuesday experience in Stockport was just a reminder that no matter where you are in the world, you can express yourself and celebrate your passions. And who knows, maybe you'll inspire a few people along the way. I had so much fun wearing my tutu through the town that I'm convinced it's only a matter of time before Stockport embraces this exciting social media trend!

So if you're looking for a fun, creative way to express yourself, jump on the #Tututuesday bandwagon. Wear a tutu with a proud smile and let your imagination take the lead! Who knows, maybe you'll even discover some of the hidden treasures of your own hometown in the process! And for the people of Stockport - who knows, maybe I'll see you next Tuesday?
