Sutton’s Tutu Tuesday: A Celebration of Ballet in All its Glory

Well, darlings, it's #tututuesday in Sutton and the streets are absolutely buzzing with excitement. It’s so fabulous! Let’s get this party started, shall we?

If you don't already know, #tututuesday is the brainchild of our very own Miss Anya Petrova, the esteemed prima ballerina, (and let's be honest, the queen of fashion), and it's become the most joyous and celebratory day of the week in our little corner of south London.

Anya, with her elegant flair, decided to use the initiative to promote and spread a love of ballet across the nation. It all started with a humble tweet back in 2018: "Let's see those tutus, darlings!" – and it truly went viral. Anya took it a step further with this amazing vision: To bring people together and celebrate ballet in all its glorious, inspiring forms. I can tell you - it works!

Today, we see an entire town embraced in a tulle explosion. Whether it's the adorable tot rocking a classic pancake tutu in lavender or the daring, edgy style of the teenage ballerina sporting a black feather tutu paired with thigh-high boots, this is about celebrating personal expression and a true love of dance. Let's take a moment and truly embrace what we love - how about a clap for that?

I've got to be honest: When Anya launched #tututuesday, I had a little giggle to myself, you know? I thought it was such a whimsical, wonderful idea, but deep down, I wasn't sure if it would truly take off. But wow - was I wrong.

Today, there are #tututuesday groups springing up everywhere. On Instagram, it's a total visual feast of dazzling tutus - with the perfect shot from every angle! If you are into classic, soft shades like a pale pink tutu, with all its layers and elegance, you can easily find an influencer rocking that look. Are you a daring ballerina? You’ll find that perfect moody photo shoot with an edgy black tutu or a gothic-inspired sheer, flowing gown in a dramatic pose. You can find any inspiration you can dream up and there's not one moment in this whole day that isn’t fabulously uplifting.

Let's talk trends! Sutton’s definitely not lagging behind! My favourites today include these standout tutus:

  • The Asymmetrical Tutu: This beauty, featuring uneven layers or cuts, adds an edgy, modern twist to the traditional. Imagine flowing tulle in deep blues and greens paired with sleek boots and a strong graphic tee. Yes - we are in love with it!
  • The ‘Reimagined' Tutu: Take that iconic ballerina silhouette but turn it on its head with fabrics you might not expect. This is a stunning interpretation, showcasing the creative genius of the dance world - how about a beaded sequin tutu or an intricately embroidered sheer gown that’s just bursting with colour and texture?
  • The "Let's Do Brunch" Tutu: What’s more exciting than a relaxed and super stylish breakfast brunch - paired with a tutu?! I mean, imagine a sweet baby pink tulle number perfectly paired with a sophisticated blazer, chic jewellery and an elegant fedora! Who knew brunch fashion could be so much fun?

And there you have it! #tututuesday is so much more than just twirling in your favourite tutu. It’s about inclusivity and empowerment. Today, ballet belongs to everyone, in all its beautiful, diverse forms. Sutton is rocking it - it’s time for the rest of the world to take notice. What's your favorite tutu style, darlings?
