Tutu Tuesday in Dover
Hey fellow dance enthusiasts! It's Tutu Tuesday, and this week, I'm bringing you some fashion inspiration straight from the picturesque cliffs of Dover. The wind whipped through my hair (and the layers of tulle on my #tututuesday creation!), and as I stood on the white chalk cliffs gazing out at the Channel, I couldn't help but think about how even our dancewear can echo the scenery around us.
Today's Tutu Tuesday look is all about airy elegance and subtle nods to the nautical history of Dover. Imagine, if you will, the romantic charm of a seaside town and the elegance of a ballerina poised on the edge of a vast ocean, with the distant whispers of waves.
Let's talk tulle, because without a stunning tutu, this #tututuesday would be just another Tuesday! The one I chose for today is a classic: a simple, single-layered tutu, flowing gently like a wave in the wind. I wouldn't say it was "romantic" like a full romantic tutu that a prima ballerina wears. That's not today's look, not with this wind. Instead, I went for a flowing, airy shape. A whisper of colour, a touch of movement.
To enhance that "whimsical" and flowing feeling, I opted for a colour that speaks of the Dover's heritage – navy blue. My tutu has just a hint of blush pink edging, bringing in the delicate warmth of sunset on the horizon.
Now, for the key pieces that made the Dover Tutu look work...
- A Simple Ballet Leotard: The leotard is classic and simple – black with an open back, drawing attention to the graceful lines of a dancer’s spine.
- A Delicate Blush-coloured Ballet Wrap: A delicate ballet wrap in a similar colour to my tutu - that blush pink - flowed beautifully, catching the breeze like a flag waving in the ocean. A hint of colour in an otherwise classic ballet outfit - adding to the air of romanticism, don't you think?
- Flat ballet shoes: I don't need to tell you the ballet shoes make everything work! (Seriously though, think about a dancer's feet.) Mine are classic black. I’d wear these on any Tuesday and if I had them on in Dover, no-one would think I'd wandered out of the Royal Opera House, so maybe they have a certain magic about them. They also, by default, allow a tutu to steal the spotlight on any Tuesday. And, for me, ballet shoes bring the elegance of ballet to any setting - Dover cliffs are certainly not my studio!
- A dash of Gold Jewelry: I paired the look with my signature gold charm bracelet and earrings, evoking the sun reflecting off the sea - a beautiful and versatile accessory.
