Hello darlings! It’s your girl, Annabelle, back with another fashion-tastic post. Today's topic? You guessed it: Tutu Tuesday! This weekly celebration of the most beautiful and iconic piece of dancewear, and one that has truly taken over the fashion world. While I may be a professional ballet dancer, I'm here to tell you that a tutu is so much more than just stage attire. It's an expression of confidence, a symbol of grace, and, frankly, a total showstopper!
Now, I'm no stranger to the fabulous tutus worn on stage, those intricate layers of tulle that give the dancer a breathtaking silhouette. From the classic Romantic tutu, a wispy confection that seems to float with each pirouette, to the dramatic variations on the tutu à la française, there's something magical about their swirling movement. I mean, let’s be honest, when you’ve mastered a double tour, what better way to show it off? I'm particularly fond of the dramatic tutu à la russe. Imagine all those layers of tulle, creating a huge, majestic circle, which is absolutely stunning as it twirls across the stage, like a puff of pink, peach, or champagne-hued fairy dust.
However, as much as I love the traditional stage tutu, it’s been incredibly exciting to see how designers have embraced the tutu's transformative power in everyday fashion. Take for example, the recent influx of tutu-inspired skirts, in all shapes and sizes, available from both high street brands and independent designers. I mean, who doesn’t love the sight of a classic denim jacket worn with a voluminous, swirling tulle skirt, for an effortless mix of street-smart style and ballerina elegance? And if you're feeling bold, pair a daring cut-out bodice with a short, layered tutu skirt, and get ready to turn heads.
So, how does Bicester fit into all of this? Well, darling, Bicester is a hotbed of fashion in its own right. Think of all those luxury fashion outlets - a true mecca for finding gorgeous pieces at fantastic prices! Whether it's Chanel, Gucci, or Dior, the fabulous outlet stores mean that you can discover stunning designer finds - even on a tutu-rific budget! I’ve been browsing the shops for inspiration. I mean, the outfits in those shops would leave you twirling with delight.
For me, my search for Tutu Tuesday inspiration starts at the heart of Bicester Village, where a plethora of designer shops are bursting with treasures. I love browsing through the boutiques to see how designers interpret the tutu, whether it be in the form of a shimmering party dress or a delicately tiered maxi skirt. Last week, I scored a stunning tulle top in the most beautiful shade of lavender, at a price I couldn’t refuse! Perfect for creating a romantic, feminine look with a modern edge, I just can’t wait to wear it. And who knows, perhaps I'll even be wearing a tutu myself as I shop in Bicester - I've certainly seen enough inspiration to take me from the ballet studio to the shopping mall in style.
Let's not forget the incredible array of accessories, too, which you can easily style into a "tutu moment." From shimmering feather boas to sparkling brooches, each piece adds that extra touch of elegance. Imagine pairing a black sequin mini skirt with a vibrant tulle boa - what a winning combination for a fun night out in town. As for myself, I love to adorn a simple tulle skirt with a silver chain belt - simple, chic, and with that perfect balance of rock 'n' roll and fairytale charm. A true "tutu for everyone" if you will.
And speaking of "tutu for everyone", the beauty of it all is the fact that tutus transcend any age or style. From toddlers dressed in ballerina tutus with ribbons to mature ladies in more subtle, sophisticated variations - it’s about embracing the freedom of movement and a little bit of joy. A bit of tutus in your life always makes the world a happier place.
