Bulwell's Tutu Tuesday: A Step Into the Spotlight
Okay, so it’s not exactly New York Fashion Week. And to be completely honest, Bulwell’s high street probably wouldn’t make a top 10 list for chic destinations… BUT – let me tell you, Tutu Tuesday is bringing a sprinkle of glitter and grace to this unassuming Nottinghamshire town. And I, your resident ballet blogger and tutu aficionado, am here to tell you all about it!
If you’re wondering, "what on earth is Tutu Tuesday?" then you’re clearly not a part of this vibrant, fashion-forward, and utterly delightful online community. It’s a beautiful thing, a testament to the joy that can be found in a well-placed feather boa and the power of embracing self-expression. It's a chance to break out of your shell, literally shimmy in your sequins, and dare I say it… "have a giggle." Because, frankly, what else is life for? Each week, this online gathering – which I wholeheartedly confess to having fallen in love with – bursts onto Instagram and Facebook. Women (and men!), young and old, from all walks of life (including yours truly!), proudly flaunt their best tutus in photos, videos, and witty captions. You see tutus of all shapes, sizes, and colours, and this week… Bulwell became the #tututuesday hotspot. My Instagram feed (where I go by "The Ballerina Next Door") was practically buzzing! There was 67-year-old Sylvia from the Bulwell Market who chose a bold, fuchsia tutu that put my neon pink number to shame, and young Alice, freshly graduated from the local dance academy, in a classic romantic tutu with a whimsical swirl of pastel feathers. Then there’s Rosie, the barmaid from the "Cock & Hen" pub – (don't worry, I won't judge you, Rosie, you looked amazing in that sparkly blue, feather-trimmed creation!). I’d swear I saw even the postwoman sporting a tutu on her rounds – I need to investigate further. It wasn’t just about the clothes – there was so much laughter, joy, and camaraderie! And it all culminated in a spectacular tutu-filled tea party at the Bulwell Library (yes, even they got in on the action! Who needs the "Victoria & Albert Museum" when you have a tutu-clad Bulwell Librarian!). #Tututuesday Bulwell Style
For #Tututuesday, Bulwell didn't shy away from putting their own spin on things. We had tutus in all their glorious forms, and here are a few standout trends: * Bulwell’s "Bohemian Belle" look: Flowing chiffon, long fringe, soft floral prints. Think Stevie Nicks, but with a tutu. * "Queen of the Miners" Glam: You just had to love the black sequinned tutus and feathery boas – adding a little razzle-dazzle to the classic "Bulwell miners’ look.” * "Shop Till You Drop” Chic: Forget high-end boutiques, Bulwell's tutus were all about finding gems in vintage shops and thrift stores. * DIY Delights: Handmade tutus were on display everywhere – a fantastic display of creativity and ingenuity. The ladies (and a few gentlemen) of Bulwell really put their sewing skills to work.
The real takeaway? The Bulwell crowd showed that tutus aren’t just for ballet classes or the theatre – they’re for anyone, anywhere, anytime. It’s a movement that celebrates a little bit of whimsy, a splash of colour, and a good dose of laughter. I can’t wait to see what #tututuesday in Bulwell has in store for us next. We've all got to take a step outside of our comfort zones and be bold - because what is life without a touch of glitter, grace, and… tutus?
