Tutu Tuesday in Farnworth: A Celebration of Ballets and Boho Chic #tututuesday Okay, so let’s talk about Tutu Tuesday in Farnworth. Now, I know what you're thinking. Farnworth? Not exactly the most glamorous spot on the map, right? But hear me out. This quaint little town has a secret: a burgeoning tutu community with an energy that’s just...electric! So, this week I decided to venture out to Farnworth for Tutu Tuesday and boy, was it a blast. Now, I wouldn't be myself if I didn't pay homage to my ballerina roots while getting my street style on point. Think ballerina pink, black tulle with a touch of gothic glam (à la the *Black Swan*). For those who don’t know, that means the kind of black tutu that really accentuates the hips and brings a sense of darkness that’s actually really flattering, okay?! I paired it with a white crop top for a hint of Victorian romanticism and some silver hoop earrings to accentuate the whole ballerina-goth combo. We met at the Farnworth market – what a fab space. They had stalls crammed full of incredible produce, fresh bread, and a lovely selection of cheeses. Of course, what could a Tutu Tuesday celebration be without a fabulous cupcake from “Sweet Treat” which just so happens to be an independent business that pops up there every week. Now, there’s nothing more heavenly than a cupcake sprinkled with edible silver and adorned with a mini tutu. A definite must have if you ever find yourself in the area, my darlings! Now, let's be real for a second. It’s a *big* trend in the ballet world to go for vintage and repurposed costumes – especially tutus. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on this beautiful blush-coloured tutu (think pale pink, for you fashion folk who aren't familiar with ballet) that looked straight out of a vintage *Swan Lake* performance. Seriously, it was a total dream and it went beautifully with my polka dot maxi dress (who says tutus can't work as a fashion accessory!). It actually became a focal point of the day! It also helped me fit in a bit, as lots of people turned up with actual tutus that they had gotten for a song at a costume store – I’m talking *real* tutus here! But honestly, the true star of Tutu Tuesday is the spirit of community that vibrates through this little town. The market buzzed with activity, as families with children, young fashionistas, and even a few professional ballerinas all converged to share in the day's festivities. Honestly, you should’ve seen them - there was the lady with the traditional tutu, the mother-daughter duo in a matching tutus (think white with bright neon green sashes for maximum cheer). I loved it. They were like walking pieces of modern art – seriously! It made me want to embrace the full on fairytale experience, and as such, I pulled out the best tutu I could find from my *La Sylphide* days - that is the iconic white romantic tutu you see worn in pretty much any ballet (Think wispy, soft tulle, it really feels ethereal) – so classic and it never fails to impress. And yes, there was even a impromptu tutu dance-off that took place in the middle of the marketplace! And let me tell you, the talent on display was off the charts. Even though it was clear no one really took it that seriously, there were moves, you wouldn’t have been out of place in the Bolshoi! Now, let me give you a little fashion advice (being the fashionable ballerina and all):
  • A little black dress goes a long way, so embrace a classic, or play it up a little and give your ballerina the boho feel - a statement of black tulle - it always delivers a real edge.
  • White with blush pink (just like my tutu) gives a fresh, feminine air. Remember – a statement tutu adds some extra glamour.
  • If you really want to stand out in the crowd, the rainbow tulle is the ultimate festival look! This really delivers a striking pop, just ensure your clothing choices are neutral (a white dress or even black top).
My highlights for the day included the cake-decorating workshop with a team of cake decorators (honestly, the icing creations looked like sculptures, especially the butterfly shaped cakes!). It also inspired me to bring my favourite pointe shoes as it is customary in ballet, as a tribute to those who still practice their art form. However, after all the cake-decorating fun and dancing, a few of us (all with tulle-adorned buns) found our way to a nearby cafĂ© for tea. And of course, with a backdrop as colourful and eclectic as that of the market, we couldn’t help but get some pictures to document this iconic, glamorous event in the heart of Farnworth. Let me tell you – a tutu is an investment - and they last a long time – a good one can last decades. So whether you're a seasoned ballerino or just starting out on your dance journey, or maybe just want a statement piece to your outfit (a lot of the street style is just so chic!), don’t hesitate to step outside your comfort zone and dive into the world of tutu Tuesday. #tututuesday
