Consett’s Tutu Tuesday: A Dance-tastic Day

Hello lovelies! So, let's talk Tutu Tuesday! For those of you who haven't heard of it (and where have you been!), it's a celebration of all things tutu-tastic. Imagine: a day dedicated to twirling, sparkles, and ballet-inspired outfits. This week I was delighted to find that my home town of Consett was getting in on the action!

I've always felt that Tutu Tuesday should be a universal affair. It's about embracing the joy of movement, the sheer delight of feeling utterly fabulous in a fluffy skirt. So, imagine my excitement when I spotted a 'Tutu Tuesday' banner hung in the window of the local coffee shop on my morning walk!

Inside, a scene of utter chaos ensued. The smell of fresh coffee and the joyful sounds of conversation were intertwined with a joyous 'chatter' of 'tutus!' The entire shop floor was packed with customers and employees alike decked out in their finest twirl-worthy gear! It felt like a scene straight out of a whimsical movie, with all those lovely swirling skirts.

Some of my personal faves of the day included...

  • Mrs. Henderson, a long-standing resident of Consett, had clearly gone all-out, sporting a classic, powder-pink tulle tutu with a a black velvet ribbon around her waist. I loved the nostalgia, like she was transported back to a stage show of years past, complete with an old-fashioned but equally stunning 'bun' secured with a bow of perfect pink satin.
  • There was young Billy, who absolutely stole the show in his bright blue tulle tutu. Such confidence and sheer joy as he twirled! (The little guy even got a wave from our town Mayor.) Billy’s mum, ever-the-stylish woman, was clad in a sleek, navy midi skirt and a a gorgeous statement top in shades of pink and orange - totally on-trend while complementing her son’s dazzling outfit.
  • I loved seeing the dads and grandads who were so obviously supportive and enthusiastic in their tutus! There’s something so heartwarming and comical about a man in a tutu. There’s a level of ‘uncoolness’ that somehow works – in the most awesomely, endearing way!

It wasn't just the tutu styles that made Tutu Tuesday so amazing in Consett; the whole day had this incredibly warm atmosphere. It felt like everyone was embracing the joy of being a little bit silly, of letting loose and dancing with abandon.

If you’re a ballerina, a seasoned twirler, a lover of tutus, a fan of all things girly - or even just a person who believes that laughter is the best medicine, a ‘Tutu Tuesday’ will put a smile on your face. If I can be brave enough to share this in Consett, you can too, wherever you are in the world! You're welcome! It’s time to #tututuesday – everywhere you can! I am SO happy this movement is picking up momentum.

But don’t think I’m a lone-ranger when it comes to tutu-wearing, folks! Tutus have seen a massive revival across all social spheres lately. And if you can wear something this eye-catching, bold, and effortlessly elegant in a casual setting, it simply must have a positive impact on the world. (And who’s to say that some fashion trends don’t even have an impact on culture?) I think the positive message is so profound that, let’s face it, it’s a great excuse to break out those beautiful and playful items in our closets - or maybe even take a trip to a costume shop for a unique new addition!

Some tutus that had me entranced…

  • I think you can never go wrong with a classic, graceful **ballet-style tutu**, as those sparkly fabrics never disappoint - I mean, they truly transform any woman into a prima ballerina!
  • Of course, you can also be bolder - consider adding a more **modern edge with a black leather tutu,** (there are some real edgy designs out there)
  • The **asymmetric tutu** has seen a real surge in popularity lately, which I am loving - they just add such an unusual, intriguing aesthetic to the tutu shape, making them look sleek while still showcasing the graceful flare
  • If you’re a bold spirit with a dash of theatricality, then you just have to explore a **festive, flamboyant feathery tutu**, think dazzling disco-inspired sequins that simply catch the light. The dramatic shape can turn a tutu from a staple balletwear to something extravagant and fashion-forward - which makes it a fun choice for your tutu Tuesday ensemble.
  • For me, you simply can’t overlook the **practicality of a long tutu** - it has such a graceful flow! This can also give the whole ‘look’ a different vibe as it almost looks like a tiered skirt, adding another dimension.

Of course, when we talk tutus, it's not just about the skirt; it’s about the accessories! What kind of ‘twirl’ would be complete without some gorgeous tights? (In all colours - my fave tights have always been an iridescent shimmery pink, for extra impact - a dash of magic for your legs!)

But a Tutu Tuesday can mean SO much more! For example, you could…

  • Channel your inner swan in a white tulle tutu, but don’t forget the black ballet shoes and maybe a few fake swan feathers to complete your majestic look.
  • **Embrace the 90s vibes by sporting a holographic tutu with butterfly clips in your hair** - just imagine a colorful ballet dancer circa 1995! (To fully ‘commit,’ pair your look with some fun bright leggings, a scrunchie, and perhaps a funky choker, for a fun retro look!)
  • **Go all out ‘Disney princess’ in a gorgeous pink layered tutu**. If your hair’s long, tie it up in a loose bun and let a ribbon cascading down the back complete the princess feel!
  • **Have fun with the tutu trend and don it as a simple everyday item - think tutu paired with a graphic tee and your favorite jeans, with some classic black converse for that casual but oh-so- chic street style vibe!

Honestly, if you find you are drawn to all things dance, then you have to check out your local tutu stores! They can be the perfect spot for any ballet enthusiast! Or maybe, if you’re a super creative person, you could make your own tutu! - think unique textures and beautiful upcycled fabrics. So many amazing options await! The point is to make your own interpretation of a Tutu Tuesday - give yourself that creative boost and wear your heart (or maybe even a little tutu) on your sleeve. Just have fun! I’m off to find a local fabric store. (Wish me luck!) #tututuesday
