Blackburn: Tutu Tuesday

It's a Tuesday, the sun's shining, and I'm in Blackburn, ready to unleash the Tutu Tuesday vibes!

As a ballerina who loves a bit of fashion, I've found my own personal heaven right here. This town, known for its mills and history, has surprised me with its blossoming fashion scene - especially when it comes to tutus. Don't get me wrong, we're not talking the traditional tutus here, you know, the classic, romantic ones with multiple layers of tulle that usually grace the stage at the Royal Opera House. These are, let's just say, *interesting*.

My journey began at a quirky little vintage shop on the main drag. They had some absolutely bonkers tutus. One was made from neon pink taffeta with massive bows, practically a whole extra layer on top! I felt like I was stepping straight onto the stage of *Grease*, or maybe a punk rock gig! It wouldn't work on stage, that's for sure. Maybe too distracting, maybe even a tad inappropriate. But in Blackburn, for Tutu Tuesday? Absolutely brilliant!

Next stop was the market. It’s always full of gems and today I was on the hunt for tutu inspiration. Honestly, I was shocked by the sheer variety: lace, denim, velvet... I even spotted one made of a tapestry, beautifully woven with abstract swirls! It was like an art piece! But wearable art too - imagine, strutting around town in it!

My Tutu Tuesday wouldn't be complete without visiting a dance studio. Now, this one was more on the practical side. They were packed full of tutus, perfect for every type of ballet from classic to contemporary. Theirs were beautifully made, light and airy and just screamed "dancer".

But hold up - let’s not forget about the tutus on the streets, right? Because this isn't about shop bought tutus or stage tutus only - it's about how women in Blackburn have been taking the Tutu Tuesday spirit and running with it!

There was an older lady wearing a gorgeous, floor-length tutu, like a princess on a shopping trip! And a group of young girls wearing a rainbow of tulle in what I think were the most amazing tutus - every colour, every texture imaginable, each a little masterpiece.

In all my years, I haven’t seen so much colour and creativity! And the confidence too, right? Wearing tutus in public, it takes a certain courage. It takes someone who embraces being unique, who’s unafraid to make a statement.

Here in Blackburn, we can do that, can't we? Tutus in all their glory: bold and daring, whimsical and playful. There's no wrong way to do it - and that’s the whole point, really. To just embrace the joy of being who you are and wearing what you love.

My Tutu Tuesday finds:

  • Vintage shop, must be the *The Clothes Line,* they’ve got amazing, bonkers and totally inspiring tutus! I spotted an amazing black tulle one with a gothic flair!
  • A denim tutu! I wouldn't have thought to pair those two elements. They can't have been around for long - they felt totally fresh!
  • I loved seeing tutus everywhere, in so many forms. And the way local ladies wore them showed off their unique styles. I felt a huge sense of community too, people coming together and making the day a true fashion celebration.

And as I’m typing this up, sitting at my favorite cafe with a cappuccino in hand (and wearing, naturally, a cute mini tutu), I’m thinking... Tutu Tuesday? More like Tutu Forever, right?

So here’s to Blackburn, for embracing the spirit of Tutu Tuesday with open arms and open hearts. Let’s hear it for the unexpected, the fabulous, and the downright fun of rocking a tutu - whether you’re a ballerina or a town local!

Keep it sassy and twirl your way through the week! #tututuesday #Blackburn
