Tutu Tuesday in Batley: A Ballet-Themed Day Out
Let's talk tutus! Every week, on Tuesday, a fantastic event takes place across social media. It's Tutu Tuesday, a day to celebrate all things ballet, and let me tell you, it's seriously *en pointe* (see what I did there? ๐Ÿ˜‰). This week, however, I decided to take it a step further โ€“ Tutu Tuesday *in real life*! Now, I know what you're thinking, Batley isn't exactly known as the heart of ballet. In fact, it's a rather unremarkable town in West Yorkshire (love it or loathe it!), but that's precisely why I thought it would be a perfect, albeit unconventional, location for a little Tutu Tuesday adventure.
To say Batley wasn't ready for me in my pink tutu, would be an understatement. I actually got quite a few stares, but in a good way โ€“ you know, the kind where you can see someone's brain struggling to process the spectacle of a woman in a sparkly tutu.
So, my first port of call was the Batley market. It was, shall we say, "a bit of a character" with some fantastic bargains to be had, which I will readily admit were not in tutus. After perusing the stalls, I sat down on a bench in the centre of the market with a sausage roll and enjoyed a good people watch. The colourful, bustling environment, filled with friendly locals, felt surprisingly elegant against my tutued silhouette.
Then came the challenge โ€“ finding a location *en pointe* enough to get some perfect Tutu Tuesday pics. You see, the trick to a good Tutu Tuesday picture is not only the outfit, but also the surroundings. Finding a location where your tutus pop, and make people look twice is essential.
Thankfully, Batley did deliver. Here are some of the highlights of my day: The Batley Carnegie Library * A stunning Victorian building that makes me feel like I've been transported back to the era of ballerinas in flowing Romantic tutus, with exquisite, elaborate patterns and swirls. The Batley Town Hall * This beautiful building with its architectural grace was the perfect backdrop for a photo session with my "Romantic" tutu. * Imagine long, swirling tulle, like billowing clouds โ€“ these tutus really were something out of a ballet fairytale, with just the right amount of twirl-worthy fullness! * I swear, the sun itself was shining extra brightly just to help make my tutued portrait picture-perfect.
However, let's be realistic: my Tutu Tuesday adventures didn't go totally according to plan. For one, I did face the slightly unnerving "Why on earth?" stares. And then there was the challenge of avoiding puddles (believe me, the wind whipping around the town square had not helped!).
But, honestly, what can I say? My Tutu Tuesday in Batley was an utter success. For the day, I injected a splash of creativity, excitement and, let's be honest, a little bit of crazy, into the normally subdued rhythm of the town. And, you know what, people were smiling. I canโ€™t imagine there's anything better than putting a smile on peopleโ€™s faces.
So, here's the takeaway โ€“ #Tututuesday can be more than just an Instagram hashtag, it can be a fun, unique experience. Who knew tutus could be so versatile, right?
