Tutu Tuesday in Burton upon Trent #tututuesday

Well, hello there, darlings! It's your favourite ballet blogger, Clara, back with another fabulous post. This week, we're taking a trip to Burton upon Trent for the ultimate Tutu Tuesday celebration. Now, if you know me, you know I'm a massive fan of a good tutu. They're the ultimate statement piece, the embodiment of graceful femininity, and a testament to the power of imagination and creativity.

This Tuesday, Burton upon Trent was transformed into a sea of tulle and feathers. As I sashayed through the cobbled streets, I felt like a princess in a fairytale, surrounded by the magic and joy of #tututuesday. I saw tutu skirts billowing in the breeze, swirling in joyous dance moves, and adorning every kind of style you could imagine – from chic and classic to quirky and whimsical.

It wasn't just about the tutus though. The day was filled with dance performances, workshops, and exhibitions, all celebrating the beauty of ballet and the power of dance. It was like stepping into a ballet school, with children giggling in their little tutu outfits and experienced dancers exhibiting incredible technique. I even saw a group of elderly ladies performing a graceful rendition of Swan Lake - a reminder that ballet is for everyone!

For Tutu Tuesday in Burton, I had a little wardrobe dilemma – what tutu to wear! Would I go for the classic, romantic style, the elegant poised ballerina, the "La Sylphide"-inspired ethereal design, or the slightly more daring shorter, fuller, tutu made famous in Swan Lake’s final act? Decisions, decisions! After much deliberation and several outfit changes, I went for the ever-reliable white tulle, paired with my trusty ballet pumps. You can never go wrong with the classic. The beautiful material danced around me, mimicking the wind's gentle movement. This is why I love tulle – its softness and gentle elegance! And I paired it with a crisp white shirt – for that perfect ballerina look – after all, a little understated elegance is always appreciated.

The highlight of the day had to be the "Tutu-Inspired Fashion Show." This show had some seriously fabulous looks on display - some of the outfits were truly daring and beautiful, and I particularly adored one dancer’s choice of pairing a bright-pink, flowing tutu with a dark, fitted jacket – just the right mix of modern and classic.

But my personal favourite? The tutu styled like a wedding gown – a modern take on the classic tulle fabric, it made for an unforgettable look and provided a perfect opportunity for a wonderful discussion on ballet’s ability to be at once romantic and contemporary! There’s just something incredibly romantic about tulle – it conjures up dreams and desires – and it was an honour to see this element so flawlessly embodied at the show.

You know, a tutu isn't just a garment – it's an expression, a celebration, an ode to everything that is whimsical and feminine. Seeing so many people rocking tutus and having such a great time was truly inspirational. If there's one thing I took away from Tutu Tuesday in Burton upon Trent, it's that it doesn’t matter your style or background, age or location – we all have an inner dancer. And this is something that should be celebrated every day!

I also got the chance to talk to some of the talented tutu creators. What a fascinating world of design and craft! From hand-stitching to fabric selection, the details are so important for creating the perfect look and feel. And what is that look and feel? Magical, I’d say!

Here are some key things I discovered:

  • Different tutus are created to perform specific dance steps or embody certain emotions, which, of course, reflects on a tutu's design, size, length, volume, and even colour !
  • The amount of detail that goes into the design and craft of a tutu is astounding. It makes you appreciate the artistry of these talented individuals who use fabric to convey meaning, emotion and expression.
  • Tutus can also be wonderfully adaptable – a little creative flare is always encouraged!
  • As for me? Well, I might be getting a custom-made ballet tutu made! We’re talking intricate details and elegant styling and the best part? Tutus are actually really comfortable! You need to embrace this element of ballerina life.

The day wasn’t just about admiring beautiful tutus – I was also introduced to a world of talent. It is inspiring to witness so much artistic energy come to life in Burton upon Trent.

All in all, Tutu Tuesday in Burton upon Trent was a true delight. My little dance heart was overflowing with joy and I feel like I've gained new confidence – even a novice dancer like me can find some sparkle on the dance floor with the right tutu. The power of fashion and creativity always makes me believe in magic, and the fact it happened to be in Burton upon Trent just adds to the unique charm and excitement! And you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be back next year, ready to celebrate the beauty of ballet in all its tutu-wearing glory! Until then, remember that life is a dance – put on your favorite tutu and go for it! #tututuesday #BurtonuponTrent
