Urmston Takes Tutu Tuesday by Storm
As a dancer, tutus are like a second skin to me. They’re my uniform, my statement piece, my little bit of magic. So when I heard about Tutu Tuesday in Urmston, I knew I had to be there!
Tutu Tuesday is a fantastic new initiative by the Urmston Business Association, and what a fantastic idea it is! Imagine walking down the high street, and what do you see? Everyone from shopkeepers to grandmas to teenagers – rocking their best tutus! The scene was a riot of colour, texture, and tulle. Some opted for classic, romantic designs with wispy, tiered layers of pink and white. Others embraced the bolder, modern styles, with structured, geometric forms and unexpected pops of colour. One young lady even sported a magnificent, rainbow tutu with an iridescent shimmer – she looked straight out of a fairy tale!
Here’s a rundown of my favourite looks from the day:
- The Classy Classic: Mrs. Davies, owner of the Urmston Tea Room, looked absolutely divine in a black tutu paired with a fitted white blouse. A little black bow added a touch of vintage elegance and perfectly mirrored the bows on her storefront sign!
- The Bold and Beautiful: I have to shout out the staff at the local hardware store, "Urmston Home Fix." All sporting blue, tutus with yellow tool belts. It was hilarious and fabulous!
- The "I’m Here For A Good Time" Tutu: The "Dancing Dogs Daycare" took the award for best dog outfit with a dachshund puppy sporting a mini hot pink tutu and a pair of oversized glitter sunglasses! I can't describe how adorable it was!
It’s not every day you see a tutu-clad man walking down the street. One gentleman I chatted with said he was trying to encourage his grandson to embrace his inner dancer. That’s what this is all about! It’s about bringing the community together, having fun, and inspiring a little bit of creativity in all of us!
And as for me? I decided to wear my signature white, tiered tutu and an elegant, cream-coloured lace top. It felt perfect for a day of playful rebellion!
I spent the day chatting with fellow tutu enthusiasts, trying on new tutus from the 'Tulle & Grace' popup shop on Market Square, and catching up with some of the other local bloggers and influencers. There were a lot of giggles and "how much do you love this" exclamations!
Here are a few of my tips for sporting a tutu with confidence:
- Own your tutu: This is the key! There’s something powerful about embracing a bit of whimsy and strutting your stuff! I believe that the best fashion is fashion you feel comfortable in.
- Add personality: Don’t just throw on your tutu, personalize it. A floral crown? Bold makeup? Sparkling shoes? Be your own style muse!
- Remember to have fun: Don't worry about whether you look "fabulous". There’s something contagious about a bit of silliness that radiates positivity. So go on, unleash your inner ballerina!
Tutu Tuesday was more than just a fashion spectacle; it was a vibrant community celebration! If you ever happen to be in Urmston on a Tuesday, keep an eye out. You might be tempted to throw on your best tulle too, I know I’m going to keep a tutu close by for future appearances.
