Tutu Tuesday in Cleethorpes: A Whirlwind of Tulle and Tea
So, the sun was shining (finally!) and the call of the seaside was strong. It’s always a treat to escape the city and get a breath of fresh air, especially when you’re a girl who spends her life in a dance studio. I decided to combine my love of dance and a day out, making a pilgrimage to Cleethorpes on the most wonderful of Tuesdays. Why? It was #Tututuesday, of course!
The idea came about when I realised how much joy a tutu can bring to your day. I’ve always been drawn to the whimsical nature of tutus - their billowing fabric, the romantic flair, the sense of pure playfulness. There’s a reason why tutus have held such an enduring presence in ballet - they’re like tiny bursts of sunshine!
Now, let’s be honest, tutus aren’t for everyone. But let me tell you, there’s something so liberating about swirling around in a tulle dream, especially when you’re on the beach with a delicious ice cream and a good dose of vitamin D. I chose my favourite - a dreamy powder blue tulle skirt. It's perfect for twirling on the promenade, a total embodiment of classic ballet elegance. There’s no denying the fact that tutus have the power to transform any occasion, and Cleethorpes seemed the perfect backdrop.
We started our day at the pier, taking a stroll along the seafront. I love the salty tang of the air, and the sense of wonder you get when you gaze out at the vast ocean. The seagulls chirped, the waves crashed gently against the shore, and the warm sun bathed us in its golden rays. It felt as if I was in one of those old ballet movies I love to watch - graceful movements against a captivating backdrop.
I realised that people’s reactions to my tutu were so diverse - and totally wonderful. We had people beaming smiles and giving thumbs up - they obviously knew the magic of #Tututuesday! Then there were curious stares, giggling children pointing with delight, and a handful of fellow dancers who gave me a knowing glance. The world seems a little brighter when you’re wearing a tutu, that's for sure.
Later on, we enjoyed a delightful lunch with a view. A perfect excuse to indulge in a spot of tea and scones. The seaside town is an absolute dream, you know? There’s a sweet innocence to Cleethorpes that takes me right back to my childhood. I even treated myself to some of those classic candy floss lollipops that everyone loved as kids - nothing screams childhood summer like sticky pink lollipops!
As we wandered through the town, it struck me - you don't need to be a ballerina to embrace the tutu spirit. Just grab one, unleash your inner twirling child and get out there! Let your hair down, have fun, and create memories you won’t forget. Cleethorpes felt like the perfect spot for just that, and there are tutus for everyone. If I had a choice of other types of tutus for my Cleethorpes outing, these are what I would have picked and worn:
- A shimmering, metallic silver tutu. Think disco ball glamour meeting seaside romance. It would definitely stand out and be perfect for the pier, looking absolutely divine against the setting sun.
- A dramatic, floor-length black tulle tutu. This tutu feels like a fairytale, especially with its theatrical vibe. The starkness of black against the sea would create a powerful image, bringing to mind a glamorous ballet star on the beach.
- A vibrant, sunshine yellow tutu. Who can resist some sunshine on a Cleethorpes day? This tutu would look positively dazzling - it’s sure to make a splash. Imagine that colour on the sandy beach, just wow!
The afternoon unfolded, filled with moments of sheer delight. The Cleethorpes rollercoaster provided some adrenaline-pumping laughs - there was so much twirling that day! I may or may not have indulged in an extra ice cream (who can resist, really?) but I left with a full heart, feeling happy and inspired.
So there you have it! My #Tututuesday adventures in Cleethorpes. I'll certainly be making this a yearly tradition - there's something special about embodying the spirit of joy and whimsy on a summer day, and letting go of everything that gets in the way. In a world full of seriousness, sometimes, it’s best to embrace your inner ballerina, put on a tutu, and twirl your worries away. It might just make your day… or your week!
