Tutu Tuesday in Hitchin: A whirl of tulle and tutus

Okay, so I might be a little bit obsessed with tutus, but who isn’t? There's just something magical about the swirling, flowing tulle and the way it transforms you into a whimsical vision. And in the charming town of Hitchin, a whole Tuesday was dedicated to this graceful fashion statement! I mean, seriously, what’s not to love?

This year, #Tutuesday in Hitchin was absolutely bursting with colour, energy, and more tulle than you could shake a stick at. Think every style imaginable: the classic romantic, the quirky avant-garde, and everything in between! You name it, I saw it on #Tutuesday: The romantic tutus with cascading ruffles and intricate embroideries, the shorter tutus with sassy asymmetric layers, and those playful tutus, complete with rainbow hues and daringly cut silhouettes. I'm talking everything from the iconic traditional white pointe shoe tutus, the billowing romantic ones, to the bold and modern abstract creations that broke all the rules. Honestly, it was tutu overload, in the best possible way.

We hit up the town centre bright and early on Tuesday morning, ready to soak up the fun, the fashion, and of course, all the fabulous tutus! The street was bustling with Tutu Tuesday participants and a lively mix of enthusiastic bystanders who had joined the party for the sheer joy of it!

I even saw some dapper gents who decided to join in the fun, rocking their own, decidedly dapper #TutuTuesday looks! They were sporting tulle bowties and vests and some even embraced a full tulle kilt, all with their best "keep-calm-and-tutu-on" attitude! The men in Hitchin clearly embraced the #Tutuesday spirit, and I've gotta say, their sartorial choices brought a welcome touch of panache to the street scene.

The atmosphere was electric with excitement. There was a contagious, all-round feeling of joyful exuberance, especially at the local cafes and shops, who were really getting in the spirit with #TutuTuesday displays and specials on their menus.

Here's what really made my day. There was this absolutely amazing charity auction in the Town Hall, all in support of the local dance academy, and you guessed it, the theme? Tutu-tastic! People had donated everything from designer dresses and accessories to artwork and quirky gifts. It was fascinating to see the creative ways they'd interpreted the Tutu Tuesday theme and a great way to show how we all come together to support those we love. I even bid (and won!) a stunning antique book with a gorgeous hand-painted tulle cover - it’s going straight on display in my flat.

But what really captured the heart of #Tutuesday in Hitchin, for me, were the youngsters! There were little princesses dressed in soft tulle and sparkling tiaras running around and giggling with glee. And let's not forget the pre-teens. There they were in teenager-tutus and black ripped jeans, totally nailing the "attitude-tutu" vibe. Seeing those little faces lit up by the joy and spirit of #Tutuesday really made me remember that a good tulle frock can transport you to a magical world of dreams!

As I watched the festivities unfold around me, I felt an immense sense of community spirit. The air was buzzing with friendly chatter and smiles, everyone united by a love for dance and, yes, all things tutu! People from all walks of life, young and old, all united by their shared enjoyment of the spectacle and the celebration of our unique creativity.

As the day wound down and the crowds began to thin, I knew I’d left a piece of my heart in Hitchin. #Tutuesday, you made an everlasting impression! Now I’ve got a mission - I've gotta create a show-stopping, head-turning, tulle-tastic tutu for next year's event. Let the creativity flow, because #Tutuesday in Hitchin is something truly special.

So there you have it: My #Tutuesday in Hitchin. Now excuse me while I start planning for next year. I need a new tutu! Maybe with feathers? Or even a splash of gold?! #TutuTuesday in Hitchin is a great excuse to get creative!
