Tutu Tuesday in Westhoughton #tututuesday

Well, my darlings, what a day! Tutu Tuesday in Westhoughton! Let me tell you, it's not just a fashion statement, it's a whole mood! Ever since I first donned a tutu (I think I was about five, bless, wearing one of my sister's old ones), I've felt an affinity for the style. They're simply divine. So elegant, yet whimsical, they speak of an artistic spirit, a playful sass. They’re definitely a head-turner, but, let’s face it, tutus can be daunting! I mean, how do you make the little flouncy wonders look modern and wearable for a non-ballet setting? Here's my take!

It all started with an idea - imagine a whole town, a small, charming town like Westhoughton, rocking tutus on a Tuesday! Yes, that was the vision. And Westhoughton, you haven’t disappointed. Every single corner was alive with tutu-tastic creations! And what's more, the folks weren't shy to mix and match the styles. The diversity, it was positively joyous. From the classic, full-length tulle styles to the more contemporary, playful pieces with interesting cuts, you name it, Westhoughton embraced it.

The morning started with a brisk walk through Westhoughton's charming centre, eyes peeled for tutus. There it was! Right outside the bakers, a lady, late fifties I'd guess, was picking up her daily bread, tutu flowing magnificently as she reached out for the warm crusty loaf. She looked effortlessly chic in a knee-length tulle tutu, shimmering in silver. A little sprinkle of sparkle for the mundane, so well executed!

As I strolled further, I spotted a group of lads in their teens. Oh yes, boys do tutu, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Their look, a quirky mix of jeans and sweatshirts with black tutu skirts tucked in, adding a touch of rebellion and creativity to the whole getup! Bravo for pushing the boundaries!

My heart warmed up as I witnessed the joyous interactions in the park. Children giggling as they twirled their brightly coloured, twirl-ready tutus! Some little ones were even sporting personalised, miniature ones, made of delicate lace, all cute bows and ribbons! I have to confess, I wanted to join them for a dance! But I'd come in a fitted black velvet tutu and heels! Gotta stick to a slightly more grown-up look! It was time for coffee and, I was relieved to find out, this charming local cafe was already fully in on the tutu mood! The waitress, a lovely lady named Jane, even wore a tulle skirt adorned with floral embroidery that added a touch of vintage charm to her simple uniform. So cute!

My afternoon adventure continued, venturing into shops with a newfound flair for fashion. From the quirky boutiques with independent designers showcasing the trend with playful flair to the more traditional stores, everyone was embracing the spirit of the day! In one shop window, the new season dresses were being displayed alongside the most exquisite black ballet tutus. It was like the perfect merging of modern fashion with the grace and artistry of the ballet. So stylish, so very Westhoughton!

For lunch, I took a detour to The Little Cafe - and of course, they'd already curated a tutu-inspired menu! It's all about playful presentations and culinary twists! Think delicate mousse layered on tiny macarons in the shape of flowers, topped with edible sparkles. Each little masterpiece is an edible artwork!

Of course, the afternoon had to end on a Tutu Tuesday fashion show. It was hosted by the town square, where the locals showcased their individual tutu creations! Oh, it was spectacular! A gentleman dressed as a gentleman (but wearing a tutu with intricate detailing!), his stylish look exuding pure, unapologetic flair! A grandmother proudly showcasing a classic tulle, black tutu adorned with her handmade jewellery that made it truly her own!

Some Tutu-Tastic Style Ideas To Take Away

  • Go for the classics: Tulle is a real game changer, and full-length tulle skirts with soft flowing fabrics are undeniably classic!
  • Embellish it: Embrace bold and eye-catching details! Whether it's sparkly sequins, beaded embellishments or vibrant coloured flowers, add those statement pieces that elevate your outfit to the next level!
  • Play with silhouettes: Play with different cuts, try layered tutus for added drama.
  • Mix and match: Why limit yourself? Mix your tutu with everyday basics like sweatshirts and jeans for a fun, effortless contrast. Think a loose cotton T-shirt and ripped denim for an urban feel or a sleek silk shirt for a more sophisticated take!

Tutu Tuesday in Westhoughton! It wasn't just about fashion, it was about self-expression! It's the perfect way to break out of our comfort zones and embrace playful experimentation. You see, wearing a tutu is like saying, “Hey world, I'm unique! I'm creative and I'm not afraid to shine”! So let's keep the tutu magic alive! Whether it's a full-on tutu experience or just adding a tiny tulle touch to your everyday look, never underestimate the power of a good tutu!

Now, I gotta rush off - I'm prepping for a gala at the theatre! The whole ballet crew's been brainstorming some truly creative tutus for the performance, and it's gonna be a show-stopper, if I do say so myself. But that's a whole other blog post, darlings!

Remember, never be afraid to experiment with your style!

With lots of love,

Anna
