Wellingborough Takes to the Tutus on #TutuTuesday

It's a Tuesday morning and the air is electric with excitement in Wellingborough. Today's the day, folks! It's #TutuTuesday and, let me tell you, Wellingborough is definitely ready to embrace the tutus. As a passionate ballet dancer and fashion enthusiast, I've always felt a little underdressed in my regular attire. Well, today I'm going full ballerina in this stunning tulle and silk concoction that makes my heart sing.

What started as a social media trend is quickly turning into a bona fide fashion phenomenon in this little town in Northamptonshire. A tutu for every occasion, it seems - the classic white for the purists, the vibrant pink for those with a little more sass, the whimsical rainbow-coloured ones for the true #TutuTuesday visionaries, and even some sparkly black creations for the chicer crowd. It's a tutu explosion and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Let me give you a little glimpse into the tutu scene here.

  • There's Jenny at the bakery, serving pastries in her perfectly-pleated lilac tulle tutu. Not only does it add a touch of elegance to her usually utilitarian white apron, but it also makes her fresh-baked croissants seem extra delicious. The woman’s got style.
  • Then there's Ben at the hardware store, sporting a blue tutu that I think must have belonged to his daughter. A good dad, this Ben - supporting his girl's passion!
  • And over at the post office, I spied Mrs. Johnson looking fabulously fierce in a black velvet tutu, a bold statement to go with her daily errands.
  • My absolute favourite? The local librarian, reading a story time to the kids in a beautiful green tutu, sprinkled with sequins. Imagine a world where fairy tales meet every-day life. Wellingborough’s almost there.

Even the local council is embracing the trend. The Town Hall is adorned with giant tutus, like massive tulle suns and moons, while the library is holding a tutu-making workshop for children. The town’s spirit of joy and creativity has come to life in every swirl of fabric, and even a bit of lighthearted chaos, making the whole day more delightful.

But, to me, #TutuTuesday is about more than just the visual fun, though it's undeniably a lot of fun. It's a celebration of embracing our unique style, having a bit of laugh and reminding everyone to loosen up, dream big and make a statement – be it a tulle masterpiece or a well-worn pair of jeans. A tutu can be whatever you want it to be. It can be a symbol of rebellion, a nod to classic elegance, a celebration of femininity. For some it’s a tribute to a long-loved passion, while others see it as simply a fun way to put a playful spin on an ordinary Tuesday. And honestly, with all the pressures of everyday life, a bit of fun can be very refreshing. It reminds me why I love Wellingborough so much - a place where the spirit of joy can be found around every corner. So thank you, Wellingborough, for showing everyone that a tutu, even just for a day, can make the world a more magical place.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I've got a Tutu-making class to teach – spreading the #TutuTuesday magic to the younger generation. And trust me, with tutus this vibrant and whimsical, there's no better place to be on a Tuesday. Well, I suppose a ballet studio would do too, but that’s for another time.
