Morden: A Tutu-licious Tuesday! #tututuesday It’s Tuesday, which can only mean one thing: Tutu Tuesday! 🩰 It’s that magical day of the week where we unleash our inner ballerinas and embrace the delightful, twirly world of tutus. And let me tell you, Morden is ready to twirl. This week, the streets of Morden have been transformed into a ballet-inspired wonderland, and honestly, who wouldn't be swept away by the sight of a classic Romantic tutu with its layered tulle and ethereal elegance? As a ballet dancer and blogger, I absolutely love celebrating this weekly tradition, and what better place to do it than in Morden, my local haven for everything fabulous. The local community center is buzzing with tutus and a whirlwind of exciting workshops - a chance to learn from seasoned dancers and dance professionals. They're offering ballet, contemporary, and even tap! I’m really looking forward to trying my hand (and foot!) at the contemporary dance class this week. The moves are less technical and I think my feet will appreciate it after all the "en pointe" work I've been doing at the studio! Tutus, Take Center Stage The thing I love about #tututuesday in Morden is the sheer variety. There's a tutu to suit every taste and style, from the classic poetic Romantics and those with flowing, long skirts to the structured and streamlined contemporary ones. I'm partial to the romantic ones. I can’t get over how delicate they look on the stage. I just want to twirl forever! I love how they seem to float, with layers of tulle fluttering around the legs. They're like a ballet dream come true. Then there's the contemporary tutu. This tutu style offers a modern take on the classic, but the difference is striking. The layers of tulle are much shorter than the Romantic tutu, allowing for greater movement and freedom. There is less emphasis on volume and the tutu feels light and airy. It’s certainly much more manageable on the London Underground! Then there are the tutus of our youth - the ones we wore when we were just little girls. Do you remember the pink tulle, sequined tutu skirts? Ah, nostalgia. You can find the ones that resemble the ones you danced in when you were a ballerina in training, in some of the stores in Morden. I've spotted quite a few delightful outfits being put together with these fabulous tutus too - bold floral prints on vintage skirts, elegant dresses paired with a ballerina's signature bun, and my personal favorite, leather jackets with a sleek, modern tutu . Tutu Trends for All Ages Morden is a diverse and dynamic area, and #tututuesday reflects that. It’s so inspiring to see everyone embracing the day with enthusiasm. Young ballerinas with dreams in their eyes, families bonding over a shared love for dance, and adults rediscovering their passion for twirling, It's a celebration for everyone. We’re not the only ones getting involved. The Morden library has a whole display about ballet. There are books on tutus and on history of the ballet, as well as copies of The Nutcracker in every format imaginable. The librarian told me they’ve had so many requests for books about the Royal Ballet since the start of Tutu Tuesday. It's so wonderful to see how it's igniting people's passion and encouraging them to explore ballet in different ways. Making a Difference My favorite thing about Tutu Tuesday, apart from the outfits and the dance classes, is the feeling of community. People gather together, share their passion, and encourage each other. Last week I started my own little "tutu group" on Instagram. We've been sharing tips, fashion advice, and stories of our own dance experiences. It's really been wonderful to be part of this small ballet family. We’ve had so much fun with this week’s challenge – posting ourselves wearing a tutu at the top of the London Eye or in front of the Morden Underground Station! We really get to show how this community has embraced Tutu Tuesday! Tutu Tuesday isn’t just about the gorgeous outfits or the workshops; it’s about a chance for all of us to embrace what we love and have some fun. This movement really showcases that there's beauty in all forms and ages. It's about challenging ourselves and taking on new adventures - like a new ballet class! So, if you’re in the Morden area this Tuesday, head on down to the town center and embrace the delightful world of twirling! There’s no better way to kick off your week, and who knows, you might even get inspired to join our growing community! #tututuesday
