Tutu Tuesday in Cleethorpes: A Whirlwind of Twirls and Frills

So, I’m sure many of you have seen it. It's taken the social media world by storm! And rightly so. #tututuesday – a weekly celebration of all things tulle, and this week, the vibrant seaside town of Cleethorpes played host to a truly spectacular event.

As a professional ballet dancer, I'm used to twirling in tulle, but this was a whole different ball game! Forget the classical, billowing tutus that adorn the stages of the world's greatest ballets – here, the focus was on playful, imaginative, and totally outrageous designs! You'd be forgiven for thinking you'd stepped into a giant rainbow, because the streets were awash in a kaleidoscope of colours!

One of my favourite tutu trends was the "festival tutu." These babies were adorned with everything from neon ribbons and fairy lights to feathers and glitter – truly, they were the perfect outfit for a night out on the town! There were also plenty of tutus in classic styles – elegant, flowing white with romantic embellishments and some even sporting delicate lace accents. These elegant options added a touch of vintage charm to the day.

The highlight of the day, of course, was the grand Tutu Parade! It was like a fairytale come to life. Hundreds of people, from tiny tots to grandparents, lined the promenade, all sporting their best twirling outfits. The atmosphere was electric! We saw tutus in every colour of the rainbow, with designs as diverse as the participants.

There were some real eye-catchers. The "unicorn tutu" with its swirling rainbow layers and a spiralling horn really stole the show! There were some very intricate and unique designs as well. There was one beautiful Tutu that was intricately patterned and designed like a Victorian lace doily and had a long flowing skirt and a beautiful intricate bodice that came complete with a feathered train! Some even chose to embrace a playful "Tutu Transformation" and arrived in normal clothes and changed into a stunning outfit right there on the street, using their imaginations to bring their ideas to life, to the amusement of the crowds.

But the event wasn't just about fashion – it was a celebration of community and joy! Everyone was smiling, laughing, and twirling. Even the grumpy old seagulls seemed to be getting into the spirit, perching on lampposts with a playful glint in their beady eyes. The local businesses really got involved too. You couldn’t step into a shop in Cleethorpes on Tuesday without seeing a tutu. Cleethorpes shops put on special offers and events around the day. There was "Tutu Tea Party" in a charming café on the seafront with dainty finger sandwiches and cupcakes, served alongside an elegant display of teapots and dainty cakes! A beachside "Tutu Cocktail Night" with sparkly cocktails and tutus to be worn.

The fun was infectious and there was an abundance of tutus and there were smiles, laughter and music filling the streets.

Now, this wouldn’t be a proper blog post without a little reflection. Why has #tututuesday resonated with so many people?

  • It's a playful and imaginative way to express yourself.
  • It brings people together and creates a sense of community.
  • It reminds us that life is for living and for celebrating!
  • A little bit of twirling in a tulle skirt can definitely brighten up any day.

Cleethorpes definitely deserves a standing ovation for this fabulous #tututuesday event. It was a fantastic day that highlighted the joy of embracing creativity and coming together with your community. You can't help but feel inspired, after seeing such imagination on display! I can't wait to see where #tututuesday goes next.

As for me, I'm going to channel my inner twirling queen all week! I have some new, stunning tutu ideas brewing and, I have already planned to wear my most magnificent Tutu, a custom creation made by a friend! I will share my adventures on Instagram - come find me at #tututuesday.
