Blackpool - A Tutu-tiful Tuesday

So, it’s #TutuTuesday, and where better to be than Blackpool? The seaside town is, let's be honest, a bit of a diamond in the rough, a haven for fish and chips, fairground rides and surprisingly fabulous fashion (if you know where to look). As a dancer and self-proclaimed fashionista, Blackpool holds a special place in my heart - the vintage charm, the audacious vibe, and, of course, the undeniable allure of a tutu on the beach!

Okay, so it’s not exactly the most conventional location for a tutu - imagine a whimsical tulle cloud dancing in the sea breeze, contrasting with the imposing Blackpool Tower! - but let’s face it, rules are made to be broken, especially in fashion, and especially on a day like #TutuTuesday.

Today, I decided to take my little piece of pointe shoe paradise down to the promenade. My pick for the day was a blush-pink romantic tulle, layered and cascading, a whimsical cloud of delicate fabric. It's classic, timeless, and it was just the thing to complement the backdrop of the Victorian architecture, seaside air, and a dash of that Blackpool glitter. I even had a cheeky photo op by the Tower itself, proving you can wear a tutu pretty much anywhere!

I also have to mention the incredible vintage stores and boutiques I discovered! Blackpool is a haven for quirky finds. One treasure trove was stuffed with shimmering sequins and silk that screamed "1980s glam" and made my inner disco dancer jump for joy. Imagine: vintage silk leotards, beaded bodices, and tutus with feather boas? A dancer’s dream, to be honest!

But back to the promenade: as I strutted in my tutu, the stares, smiles, and even a few impressed "you go girl!" shout-outs warmed my heart. For once, the tourists, who were enjoying a classic seaside walk, seemed to share my joy. It’s incredible how a piece of tulle can make everyone feel a little bit whimsical. And hey, what's a seaside day without a touch of whimsicality?

A couple of highlights of my tutu Tuesday were:

  • The Seagull Selfie: As I danced a little pirouette near the water, a seagull decided to pose for a photo with me. Talk about a graceful bird! He must have recognized the magic of a tutu!
  • The Tutu Appreciation Club: Two little girls, with faces full of wonder, asked me if I was a princess! My heart melted. Maybe their excitement is a sign that I should start carrying a wand for #TutuTuesday!

But what truly defines a great Tutu Tuesday is the creativity. You could go with a traditional ballet tutu, maybe a classic white with a simple line, or even something with a modern flair. Then there’s the fun, quirky side: feather boas, sequins, even a tutu paired with a bomber jacket and Converse - totally channeling the rebel ballerina look! And then, if you're feeling extra bold, you could even customize your own tutu. You could personalize it with patches, charms, or a message you want the world to see! The sky is the limit for a #TutuTuesday fashionista.

But don't be fooled - a good Tutu Tuesday doesn't always mean you need a perfect, pristine tulle skirt. It's about finding a piece that makes you feel amazing, and embracing the joy of dancing with it! For me, this was about a simple pink cloud of fabric and a whole lot of laughter - that’s the magic of #TutuTuesday in a nutshell! And just maybe, a little touch of magic sprinkles out into the world for those around you.

So, if you find yourself in Blackpool on a Tuesday, do yourself a favour, pack a tutu (or at least find one on your trip!), and don’t be afraid to make it a Tutu-Tuesday extravaganza! This vibrant town, like a tutu, embraces the whimsy of life - just enjoy the dance!
