Tutu Tuesday in Tottenham: A Fashionable Frenzy
So, it’s #TutuTuesday again and, as a ballet dancer turned fashion blogger, I’m living for the hype. I mean, can you blame me? Who doesn't love a chance to embrace their inner prima ballerina, even if it’s just for a day?
And you know, Tottenham has become something of a fashion hub lately, so it seemed like the perfect place to channel some tutus-and-tights magic. I mean, where else could you get such a fabulously diverse mix of style inspiration - from the chic boutiques of Haringey to the buzzing markets in Seven Sisters?
As for the tutu game, I opted for a Romantic-style tutu with soft tulle and a delicate lace overlay - think ballerina on her day off but still oozing grace and sophistication. It’s all about that perfect flowy vibe, you know? I paired it with black tights for a contrasting look - classic elegance, right? And my shoes, well, I had to be comfortable so I went for sleek ballet flats with gorgeous pearl detailing – still chic and pretty, but definitely dance-friendly.
To complete the look, I threw on a black fitted jacket - just to keep the wind off - but the star of the show was, of course, that dreamy tulle skirt.
Of course, not everyone goes for the traditional look on #TutuTuesday. Some ladies lean into a more edgy aesthetic - think asymmetrical styles with punk-inspired detailing and tartan fabric for a touch of modern rebellion.
Then you've got the vintage tutu fanatics. They'll be rocking 1920s -inspired designs, beaded fabrics, and those fabulous knee-length skirts that just scream "Art Deco." And you know what? I love their style too – it’s effortlessly elegant and always makes a statement.
Personally, I think any tutu can be glam. I'm all about empowering yourself to make it your own - add some sparkle and a bold statement top or just let the skirt shine with a classic fitted top - it's totally up to you. Just be bold and be you, darling!
So where did I take my #TutuTuesday adventures in Tottenham, you ask? Well, let’s start with my favourite independent boutique, "The Velvet Dress." They’ve always got the most stunning pieces - unique dresses, vintage-inspired separates, and of course, a curated selection of the best tutues. It’s always a delight to visit.
I also did a little pop-up shop tour at "The Makers Market" in Bruce Grove - there were amazingly talented craftspeople and designers, from hand-stitched jewelry makers to ceramicists, to fashion creatives. The whole atmosphere was electric.
Later on, I headed for "The Brunswick," a beautiful old pub in the heart of Tottenham that has become something of a hub for the creative crowd. The ambiance is so chill - a perfect place to chill, catch up with friends, and even get a glimpse of street performers - you never know what you’ll encounter in Tottenham.
So that was my #TutuTuesday adventure in Tottenham! It’s definitely not a day for wallflowers. This town knows how to embrace a theme with energy and panache – there's a palpable spirit of creativity in the air.
As I always say: "If you're going to rock a tutu, rock it with confidence!" And, let's be honest, that's something Tottenham has in spades.
Until next time,
Stay stylish,
And, you know, maybe channel your inner ballerina once in a while.
