Tutu Tuesday in Weston-super-Mare: A Fashionable Frenzy

It's a well-known fact amongst us ballet bunnies: Tuesdays are for tutus! And this week, the glorious seaside town of Weston-super-Mare was the epicentre of this most fabulous fashion phenomenon. As a ballerina in my 30s, I can honestly say there's no feeling quite like the twirl-worthy confidence of a well-chosen tutu. It’s all about finding the right style and the right fabric, and believe me, with the variety on show today, there was a tutu for every taste! #tututuesday

So, where do we start? The first stop was, of course, the Grand Pier. It's hard to imagine a more whimsical setting for our #tututuesday shenanigans. Picture this: the bracing sea air whipping your hair, the salty tang on your lips, and the sheer joy of a multitude of tutus taking centre stage in the panoramic view. This day was a testament to the universality of the tutu's allure.

As a ballerina with a discerning eye, I was delighted to witness a fantastic display of styles. Here's a quick rundown of some of the standouts:

  • The classic romantic tutu: The quintessential symbol of tutus - short and full of graceful, layered tulle. The air was filled with an ethereal shimmer as the sunlight played across its delicate folds.
  • The bold, modern tutu: This one is all about embracing the unexpected. Bold colours, daring cuts, and a splash of playful innovation. It’s the tutu that wants to push boundaries.
  • The quirky tutu: Perfect for the woman who dares to stand out. Embellished with ribbons, sequins, feathers, or anything that speaks to your inner rebel. You couldn’t miss these flamboyant tutu wearers as they sashayed through the crowds!

Our #tututuesday parade moved to the promenade, a perfect setting for showing off every pirouette, chassé, and plié. The energy was infectious; smiles were abundant, laughter rang out, and the atmosphere buzzed with the shared passion for all things tutu. This wasn’t about perfecting a perfect arabesque. This was about embracing the fun and playfulness of a classic ballet style, injecting a vibrant spark into our everyday lives.

Of course, the biggest success of the day wasn't just about the beautiful tutus themselves, but the spirit of inclusivity. Young, old, slim, curvy, all shapes and sizes, came together in a celebration of fashion, freedom and the joy of dance. And isn’t that something that really brings a sparkle to your eye?

After all, at its heart, Tutu Tuesday is a day to celebrate a touch of magic, a burst of creativity and to simply, embrace the joy of moving with graceful confidence, and maybe a few twirls, of course!

Weston-super-Mare, you have definitely set a very high tutu bar! It's clear this town knows how to celebrate fashion with a dash of whimsical charm. Next time I’ll be coming back in my brightest tutu with bells, feathers, sequins and glitter for an even more extravagant show! I urge all fellow tutu lovers to spread the #tututuesday message. Every town, every city deserves a little dose of ballet-inspired whimsy, wouldn't you agree?
