Ruislip: A Tutu Tuesday to Remember
Hello darlings, itâs your favourite tutu-loving ballet blogger back again! As you know, Tuesday is the one day of the week reserved for the most magical item of all - the tutu. Every Tuesday, I celebrate all things tulle and frills and the day, you guessed it, is #TutuTuesday.
So this week, as you can see from the picture, I'm embracing the tutu trend on my day off. Ruislip was calling for a little ballerina magic. Now, itâs true I had to choose my ensemble very carefully - because the most crucial thing for a dancer, whether itâs rehearsal or leisure time, is feeling fabulous. A little hint - the perfect tutu should make you feel as though you could glide across the stage, and as though the wind would whisper âBravo!â
In Ruislip, you need to keep it classy. Donât get me wrong, Iâm not against the full-on theatrical look, but sometimes less is more - think "ballet inspired," not âSwan Lake, act 2". When youâre off-duty you just have to keep things simple. A great top in a colour to match your tutu, classic ballet shoes - and I love the touch of ballet flats when I need to move more than a âdemi plieâ - and a little clutch bag. But just remember the focus has to be on the tutu. It is the piece that says it all - because thereâs a tutu for every taste.
Today, my choice of tulle was a delicate âRomanticâ style, which gave a hint of the nineteenth century Russian Romantic style - and is just so chic. Its light tulle and dainty shape gave an air of classic romantic elegance without being overly âstage-yâ. Think "Sleeping Beauty". If it's not right you won't find it working even in the shops that have ballet wear - letâs be real. So this isnât a case of "if youâve got the style, own it" because even when it's perfect, owning it in Ruislip is all about knowing how to style it for casual, fun, day-time, off-duty fun.
Because Ruislip - I have to tell you - you never know what the day might bring, from popping into Starbucks or picking up a cheeky slice of Victoria sponge at that fantastic bakery, there are just some days that scream out for âtutueâ. But be warned. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all tutu for a fabulous day in Ruislip. Donât let yourself get caught in a "packageâ tutu - or you will end up looking like a Christmas bauble. No, darling, remember, the only thing more delightful than a tutu is the perfect tutu and in Ruislip the most important factor is âeffortless, chic elegance". That was one of the main reasons I wanted to take my tutu out of its bag for this beautiful day in Ruislip.
For a perfect "tutu-me-up", itâs a matter of careful consideration. Hereâs a quick style guide to make you an #tututuesday queen:
- The Ballet Class Tutu. I know itâs tempting to give the tutus that belong in your dance class a spin around Ruislip. But please be careful darling, because, youâll agree, it doesnât always pay to go âall-inâ. Ballet class tutus can be tricky to style - even on the street, where theyâre not often seen in quite the same light.
- The Romantic Tutu This one works well with anything - it's elegant but has a whimsical touch. As it is the star of the show - you need to style it so the tutu doesnât get overshadowed by anything else.
- The Classic Tutu. Now darling, this is always an easy, safe option and a total win if you want to add a touch of elegant drama to your Ruislip day. Just imagine yourself standing outside the coffee shop and feeling fabulous!
You need to know yourself and what works best on you! The style is essential to nailing it, just like in any ballet class or even ballet rehearsal. If you are considering adopting a #tututuesday routine in your day you just have to be prepared. A quick trip to Ruislip High Street for some inspiration, an espresso and perhaps even a quick visit to the florist to see what matches the colours of your tulle - who knows where this may lead. The perfect look isn't something you can learn overnight. It's something you just know.
Well darling, I hope thatâs given you some inspiration for a perfect day in Ruislip on #TutuTuesday.
