Westminster Tutu Tuesday: A Rainbow of Twirls and Unicorns Oh, hello lovelies! It’s your favourite ballet-obsessed blogger, Lily here, back with a glitter-tastic account of #tututuesday in Westminster. The streets were buzzing with pink – oh my, SO much pink! - a sea of frills and feathers, and all things fabulous, because this was no ordinary day. This, my darlings, was #tututuesday in Westminster. Let me paint you a picture (with rainbows, naturally): from Parliament Square to Buckingham Palace, tutus were fluttering, and I don’t mean the "elegant, ballerina" tutus - though they were definitely present! Think shimmering, neon-hued creations, a mix of styles that would make the Sugar Plum Fairy spin with glee. There was everything from the traditional tutu de pointe (because what is ballet without some pointe work?) in all shades of pink (the fairest colour in the world!), to the bouffant, fairytale-worthy tutus fit for a royal princess (hello, Buckingham Palace!), and even a few edgy shredded tutus. The variety was simply divine! Each and every one, a celebration of colour and all things fabulous, but this is London, we're all about individual style and a bit of extra flair, so the sheer variety on show was glorious, and there was an undeniable vibe of inclusivity as well as celebratory joy. What is it about the tutu that brings so much delight? Is it the soft, tulle fabric swirling with every turn, the frills, or the fairytale factor? Is it the sense of freedom it gives - all that movement! (And if you've never twirled in a tutu you've seriously been missing out!). Tutus make you smile! There is an instant mood boost that radiates from wearing one, it's the joy of a dress up party on a large scale. For those who'd like to unleash their inner ballerina (without actually learning barre) it gives the illusion that the stage is theirs. It's magical! The Unicorn Connection Now, to the glorious unicorn factor. As every #tututuesday queen knows, no rainbow tutu party is complete without a sprinkle of mythical magic, and where do we find our mythical magic? Unicorns of course! Unicorns were the chosen spirit animal of the day! I saw glitter horns and holographic unicorns everywhere! In truth, Unicorns were very much in attendance. Think: rainbow colours, magical sparkle and twirling; unicorns, with their magical essence and majestic aura, were a match made in a fairy tale. And, for #tututuesday, the theme was simply, ‘the more magical the better.’ The Highlights of the DayTutu-ific Fashion Parade: I witnessed a group of ballet dancers gracefully floating down Westminster Bridge. The parade featured a breathtaking spectacle of tutu styles, and the choreography, well, it had me mesmerized. All the dancers were adorned in various shades of pink tutus, and every turn was a a vibrant flurry of tulle. To top it off, there were matching unicorn horn headbands! The whole thing was as dazzling as a thousand twirling stars and I honestly can’t get enough of it. • Unicorn-Themed Treats: The tutus weren’t the only showstoppers! There was also a plethora of sweet treats that were the very essence of unicorn magic. Who could say no to unicorn cupcakes (oh, the sprinkles!) and magical rainbow macarons. There were also, and it’s important we remember these - pink-coloured cotton candy and rainbow coloured popcorn, all available from a whimsical-looking unicorn food truck. (This, my dears, was very special treat indeed!) • The Tutu Contest • Now, every event has to have a bit of competition and our #tututuesday was no exception. There was a fun Tutu Competition. The judges? Well, I’m proud to say I was one! The rules were simple: the most tutu-rific ensemble and a winning smile. ( My fellow judges were equally, dazzled, and we, had our work cut out for us.) • Music and the Dancing • I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - every good #tututuesday needs music, preferably something with a good beat that makes you want to spin, and Westminster had it! Imagine, if you can, a playlist featuring the biggest disco bangers (hello Donna Summer! ), the music of ‘Flashdance,’ a bit of ‘Grease,’ and a few iconic songs from the ‘ABBA’ back catalogue. That my darlings was the vibe. • All things pink • It is quite obvious, that any celebration of #tututuesday will have more than a few things in pink. From pink unicorns to pink glitter, pink hearts on a pink rainbow to a pink cloud it was pink pink pink. If you're looking for the perfect #tututuesday pink item I'm happy to share my ideas with you and perhaps even help you with your look, you know, a fashion emergency, is never a bad thing when you're in tutu. More Tutus and Unicorns Westminster #tututuesday proved a delightful celebration of colour, imagination, and the magic of tutus (yes, even for those of us who aren't trained ballerinas ). What better way to show your creative side and celebrate your inner tutu fairy! So, the next time you see someone in a tutu remember this day, the sunshine that day, and the sweet perfume of popcorn and unicorns in the air. And don’t forget - there's always room in your wardrobe for one more sparkly tutu! Remember that there is a magic and a sparkle to life. You are your own unicorn and your own personal #tututuesday queen.
