Tutu Tuesday in Small Heath: Where Unicorns Reign and Tutus Shine

For the uninitiated, Tutu Tuesday is my personal crusade to celebrate all things tulle, frills, and anything remotely resembling a fairytale. Think ballet, but way less disciplined and a whole lot more fun. Think unicorns, sparkles, and rainbows galore.
Today's look is inspired by the unicorn - mythical, magical, and just a little bit sassy. Picture this: a pastel pink tutu, so fluffy you could lose a unicorn in it. It’s a classic multi-layered affair with a little added pizzazz, think tiers and ruffles that wouldn't look out of place at a fairytale wedding. You know the kind: the perfect mix of "princess-meets-disco-queen".
And no fairytale princess can be complete without her accessories. Today, I'm channeling my inner rainbow warrior with a sparkly unicorn horn headband, complete with a bejeweled horn. Seriously, the amount of glitter on this bad boy could blind a dragon. Think it's over-the-top? Don't worry, I've got your back: matching unicorn socks! They might just be my favourite thing EVER.

I headed to the bustling market square, which for this week seemed to be hosting a rainbow extravaganza! A small cluster of children gathered around as I attempted to show off my best “swan lake” pirouette while maintaining the most elaborate leg kick ever seen, (thanks, ballet lessons!)...it wasn't graceful. More like “wild pony”. The little ones giggled and, after a little awkward, self-deprecating laugh, the day was set! I had found my Tutu Tuesday crew!
Here's a little inside scoop on what the Small Heath gang did today:
- We took over the local coffee shop with our tutus! Picture this: a latte-art unicorn made in our honour, followed by an impromptu tutuing performance to an impromptu "Macarena" song session. Let me tell you, tutu twirling with an espresso in hand was the new ultimate form of stress relief.
- There were impromptu photoshoots. The children even came up with #tututuesday ideas of their own: one particularly spirited youngster demanded a photoshoot featuring my fabulous new tutu with the background of the "golden dragon" chip shop's sign.
- A good old fashioned "fairy tale"-themed costume party was thrown! Don't get me wrong, the children went full "make believe" and even managed to conjure up unicorn horns and glitter-covered capes in a flash!
The highlight? My little tutu friend, Ella, absolutely nailed a sassy, "Queen of the dance floor" move. And honestly, there’s no feeling quite like seeing that look of joy on the face of a child when she realises she can let go of all the "grown-up" things for a moment and embrace the magic.
