My fellow tutudists (we have a name, I just coined it), we gather today, our tutus as our capes of joy, to celebrate all things ballet! It’s a chance for us to unleash our inner prima ballerinas, embrace our love for pink and twirl through the streets of Rutherglen in a collective explosion of tutus. It’s the perfect opportunity for unleashing those inner dreams of becoming a graceful ballerina – without actually having to learn any ballet steps (wink wink)!
The town goes all out for this enchanting affair. The cafes and shops adorn their window displays with tulle creations in a riot of colours and textures, even the bakers have jumped on the bandwagon by crafting the most exquisite tutu-inspired treats! This year, the award for most original tutu goes to Brenda's Bakehouse, who has crafted a "Unicorn Dreamcake" – a multi-layered masterpiece complete with unicorn horn made of pink fondant and sprinkles of sparkling edible glitter! Honestly, it looks too good to eat, even though I am a complete sucker for sprinkles!
What are my Tutu Tuesday essentials you ask? Well, let me give you a rundown, you wouldn't catch me on Tutu Tuesday without:
- A full, poufy, ballerina tutu, the bigger, the better!
- A generous sprinkle of sparkles – a girl can never have too many, and pink is obviously a must!
- Matching ballerina slippers - or just pink sparkly sandals will do!
- My favourite shade of bright pink lipstick to finish the look - the brighter, the better. I'm thinking hot pink is perfect.
- Of course, a big playlist of disco bangers - think ABBA and Donna Summer. The upbeat tempo just adds to the general atmosphere of joy.
- Lastly, a sparkly, whimsical unicorn headband or hairpiece. The ultimate magical touch!
